Do you know any temp workers that converted as permanent? Or does this company hire temps to save money for months then let them go without notice?

This question depends on the department and role. Typically in IT, yes. That department is going through layoffs.
If you were hired as a seasonal BV specialist, I would recommend talking to your manager about open roles and applying direct.
