To anyone considering a job at optum, two words: run away!!! Run as far as you can from this place. You will find a better job somewhere. I guarantee you that. Work at Optum if you want to just be a number, or if you want to “improve” health care cost by burning money on inefficient engineering processes that upper management refuses to accept are broken. Work here if you want to be shunned for voicing your concerns or bring fresh ideas to the table. Innovation is always welcome, so long as it aligns with the outdated ideas rooted in place.

Agree with it all but I am also a realist and not naive. All organizations care about what sustains they, money. If along the way you can find a great core team and get a paycheck, that’s successful. It’s gotta be a mutually beneficial Relationship. I work and provide my soft skills that make $ for the department and in return, I get a paycheck and contribute to my 401k in a physically safe environment. The realist side of me has accepted I will not be able to find an organization that will pay me what I need that is also a wholesome, good for humanity corporation. FACTS.
Ref: Operations improvement. As a "former" employee- My function was "integration". Whenever I was doing my diligence in identifying process optimization opportunities for M&A, I was told to "zip" it because it all to be outsourced/offshore. I was told to keep it confidential = "zip it". Sad state of this org.
Completely agree with the poster. It very toxic, hostile, and harassment. Run - Run - Run
Completely agree with the poster. It's all about money. They are NOT building a better healthcare system. They prefer to make money from the sick by denying care, reducing care, limiting procedures, employing less people, increasing wait times during which people become more ill or die. They prefer to skimp, cost cut, and lay off - this is how they increase their revenues and shareholder value. It's all about the stock price and they hide behind their buzz words, improving health care for al blah, blah, blah.
The dept of Justice failed us. They need to audit them and the data they take from every organization they purchase that they use to see what other insurance companies charge. They lie, cheat and steal. They need to be investigated for their illegal practices.
It's insanity to work there. Their long time employees are indoctrinated into this toxicity and they are rude, nasty and mean. They treat new acquirees like cr-p and demean them. It's horrific. Then they lay them off without warning or warn notices. They are above the law.
As the poster said - RUN, RUN, RUN far away. Don't take the job. Glassdoor is where people should put their negative reviews of the hellish environment. Glad I no longer have to deal with the toxic people or culture.
i bet op complains at every job they have ever had
Anyone who takes initiative to offer recommendations or ideas to improve operations or service delivery will have a short tenure.
