For the gang who opted not to show up in the office at least 3 times a week, do we know if the layoff will be under PIP/no compliance with management or just a new mass layoff to keep us humble and recycled?

Regular layoffs were done to enable RTO. RTO is being done to enable involuntary layoffs (firing). All types of layoffs, RTO are being done to reduce expenses and improve free cash flow. Improved free cash flow is being done to wow investors. It's just a big political stunt meant to confuse everyone.
Layoffs were done to enable RTO.
Remember that.
I can't imagine coming into an office that has just coffee for snacks and having to hear people brag about which LP they're using. But your peers at the warehouse have to come in every day.
Peers?

AWS is serious about return to office. They want anyone, even if they do not have team mate in the city they are located to still go to the office. Almost impossible to get exception.
They are going to more or less lay off anyone who is not complying with this in the next 6 months using one trick or another.
it seems a case can be made people in violation of the LP Have a backbone, Disagree & Commit. Arguably also failing on bias for action. Well, they have what they need for a classic PIP.
I know a L5 who got PIPed soon after he rejected his manager requests for him to visit warehouse where he was assigned prior to covid for at least 3 times a week.
