~10% Cuts September 2023

Company-wide layoffs coming in mid September.

In EFK - roughly 10% cuts overall. Major restructuring, with much more than 10% of management no longer in management roles (some fired, some moved to non-management jobs), removal of entire level of middle management, and elimination of top executives from the former GF org.

onsemi EFK head hunted me from my good job at Applied Materials with lots of promises and lies about how well they were doing. I sold my house and moved to NY, onsemi paid > $75,000 in relocation costs then laid me off after 11 months because they did not hit gross margin targets. With that type of planning, I am not surprised that they are in the financial toilet.

Most of the engineers are left over from global, and don’t have the qualifications, whatever happened to PHD’s that use to run the show and very knowledgeable. Job’s go on hold and stay on hold. Process tech’s don’t know much either.

Execs making 6 - 7 figures get to have a company paid vacation while having multi-million dollar Indy Car play dates while hardworking people earning a fraction of that sponsorship are being let go. The CEO even has a whole website to show off his exotic cars. Penny wise/pound foolish decisions made by a little boy who loves his toys.

CEO said layoffs were due to buying too many new facilities over the last few years. The layoffs were to consolidate, not due to a downturn in the economy. In reality, here at EFK we have almost no product to make. Our management told us it was due to the poor economy. Maybe the CEO got a message from the Biden admin about how great the economy is, have to keep that Chips act money. On is a terrible company with the worst medical insurance I've ever had. Nobody wants to work here anymore. If this place closes, I'll be happy and sad. I need my job, but I also hate it.

The PA Design Center in Lower Gwynedd was shut down at the end of September; the nine remaining experienced mixed-signal design team members were let go. The test group there was shut down a few months ago, and the Teradyne uFlex scrapped for spares. The center was acquired when AMIS was acquired; previously it was Focus Semiconductor, acquired by AMIS in 1997.

A bunch laid off at EFK and rumour is that more are coming in the winter or early next year. Management says that we’re doing great but people have received emails by accident from corporate mentioning the layoffs are coming.

Well, the original post about 10% in EFK was pretty much spot on - ~100 people lost their job this time. Hmm, I wonder who the original poster was?!?!? Anyway, most of the new hires for the area that was a bottleneck were let go. Regardless, it's all due to poor planning/outlook. And it’s all because of one person in finance not telling the truth about how much of a money pit EFK is. Yeah, he lost his job, but now for the 2nd time in 9 months others have now lost their job due to that one person. And other than those few execs left over from GF that were let go, I cannot understand the re-org when the mgrs that were "affected" are still here making the same pay. They are no longer in mgmt but are now in a "team lead" role with no people responsibilities. How is that saving money?? In other words, they eliminated middle mgmt, but those people are still working. Seems like mgmt protecting their own. And now, 2 hits in 9 months in EFK has completely destroyed morale. You can see it in the faces of the people who are left. Be ready for the next one - Winter '23 or Spring '24. Headwinds in EFK.

I was not just middle management they let go some of the hard working Process Techs and Operators as well so now the Engineers have double the work they are already up to their necks with and keep installing machines like crazy which is causing thickness issues causing the wafers to break which is affecting there yields.

Total incompetence by upper management.
One day its go go go, followed immediately by oops, all you we just hired for that imaginary ramp, good bye, plus then laying off hundreds.
This is all on the CEO, ,he's blind as a bad to accurate forecasting.

Final countdown is ON. EFK is failing miserably with 300mm wafers and they can’t get the yield required due to wafer thickness.
