Thread regarding Shell Oil layoffs

Winter is coming

Lacking a good crisis to prompt change… manufacture one! Look I agree we need to shake the deadwood out and get back to some role clarity so folks know what they need to deliver, but execution to date has been so ham-fisted. EVPs aren’t feeling the warm embrace of being welcomed into the big brain room and only handed directives to go fetch the pound of flesh - and they must use the phrase “of course we won’t erode value by turning off good costs.” Buckle up butter cup, it’ll be a bumpy 2024.

I have plenty more thoughts as the OP, but I can assure you I’m not AI.

I think both of the comments above were generated by Chat GPT. I appreciated the post. I think the writer should share more if his/her thoughts. I’m concerned. There will certainly be strategic layoffs, and it’s not a great time to head into fall looking for a new role, either within or outside of Shell.

This message seems to express frustration and cynicism towards the current state of affairs in an organization or company. It suggests that there is a perceived lack of urgency or motivation for change, and instead proposes the idea of deliberately creating a crisis to provoke action. The author agrees that there is a need to address issues such as unclear roles and responsibilities, but criticizes the execution so far, describing it as clumsy or inept.

The mention of EVPs (Executive Vice Presidents) feeling unwelcome and being given directives without being involved in decision-making implies a sense of exclusion and frustration among higher-level executives. The phrase "go fetch the pound of flesh" may suggest a feeling of being exploited or burdened by demanding tasks or expectations.

The message concludes with the phrase "buckle up buttercup, it'll be a bumpy 2024," which adds a sense of foreboding or tumultuousness to the future, implying that challenges or difficulties lie ahead for the organization or company.
