Thread regarding VMware layoffs

Can people just learn that no one knows until everybody knows ?

There’s literally zero point in asking the same bloody questions about layoffs or merger or whatnot.

Even IF you are the one that knows and you say in leadership meetings, no one will believe you unless you prove it or give facts.

Just give it up people. Either wait and see what happens until you get a letter or call with HR, or take your own future in your hand and move on or prepare for whatever may or may not come.

Driving an anonymous board nuts will not help. No matter how anxious you are and I understand you are after good news but even if you get good news, you shouldn’t believe what an anonymous user says.

I got laid off today and didn’t even get two weeks for every year I was at vmware.

Layoffs are harsh - wish I left months ago

Hey, ChatGPT, Write five short statements that are a variation on “I can neither confirm or deny such news”

  1. I'm unable to confirm or deny the accuracy of that information.
  2. I'm not in a position to either confirm or deny those reports.
  3. I can't provide confirmation or denial regarding that matter.
  4. I'm not at liberty to confirm or deny such news.
  5. I don't have the authority to confirm or deny the validity of that news.

Bullshït. There are many better ways to “not confirm” and they chose poorly.

Name some.

How many of us come here in the hope of finding accurate final answers? I just like to hear out the thoughts and concerns from different perspectives and be mentally prepared based on the ideas and experiences shared by the rest. There is nothing wrong with articulating our thoughts, just as you have done in your post.

Unfortunately, as usual, no consequences for their poor leadership. Unless getting $10s of millions in CIC money is considered a consequence.

I can’t fathom why anyone “defends” their poor leadership. They simply su-k and have continued to su-k.

Then in the Kit AMA channel people asked about the rumoured acquisition and Kit responded pretty much Raghu style that those are just rumours. Literally 72hrs later it was announced.

Right. This has been addressed repeatedly before. Confirming rumors can be seen as SEC violations. It has an impact on stock.

You may see it as "lying". The rest of us see it as "answering with public information so as to not go to jail".

OP has a point and I bet all the downvotes are from all the hopefuls.

Anyway

I'm going to grab some popcorn and ask what you think they lied to you about?

Raghu and Kit lied to us even before the announcement. They did after too but to me that was most obvious. When the rumours started piling in, just before execs were forced to announce it as it clearly got out of hand, Raghu essentially said by email that people should stop believing in rumours and I think after that sent his stupid memo in how we all just should get on with things.

Then in the Kit AMA channel people asked about the rumoured acquisition and Kit responded pretty much Raghu style that those are just rumours. Literally 72hrs later it was announced.

Here is the thing. Executives are not allowed to talk about it - I get it. Which is why I kinda agree with the OP (kinda) as you will not know until you know.

BUT. Why get out of your way to tell people two days prior the announcement that these are just rumours.

Either a. say nothing because a CTO will know about it two days prior, I am sure of it. Or even better b. say you are in no position (legally) to confirm or deny but asks people to be patient and wait for announcements.

Easiest way out for Kit at that time would have been option a. But no. He told people essentially it’s all BS. That was btw the day I applied for new jobs and eventually left because I really thought Kit was one of the good ones.

„BUT the problem is that our senior management doesn‘t have the bullocks to tell us the truth!“
The problem is that our senior management doesn’t know either.
In 2 calls, managers were told that letters will be sent to employees without their managers knowing before. Managers won’t know whom BC will pick for those 3 buckets. They can’t even make recommendations, nor do they know what the categories are: experience, money, willingness? It’s unheard of (I’m a Director/manager myself and it totally su-ks that I can’t protect my team).
BC are ruthless.

You need to chill. If you don't like the questions, don't visit the website that is called layoffs!
