Thread regarding VMware layoffs

Breaking. Official dates.

Just off this mornings call with LT team.

Oct 30th Wave 1
Feb 5th Wave 2
Full transition Feb '25

In our area (Ops) it'll be 90/10/0 Breakdown. Yes 90% day 1.
Other groups will be different though.

Letters going mid Oct. With notice period I assume this means 2 weeks gardening leave.

Full Oracle shop - including CRM too - confirmed

This isn’t a nonsense post. I’ve just had this communicated to me too, internally. Thee buckets to be communicated mid-end October.

Sorry folks. Starting to feel real now.

Enough with these absolute nonsense posts. People on here have been throwing out nothing but rumors for the past year now yet everytime a new thread starts folks seem to take it as gospel. The facts are that likely only a small number of people within VMware actually know what is going to happen and they aren't commenting here. Over the past year it seems like there are a large number of employees sitting on their a-s, bi--hing here about how sh---y VMware is, and anticipating the worst. Either go out and take initiave in finding a new job, or actually work to make this a better place.

Why do people freak out so much as soon as they hear “pay in lieu of notice”? Yes it’s a bad thing for H1B holders. But is a valid method under WARN Act unfortunately. This method saves BC lot of headache to do payroll for thousands of folks for 2 months.

Also please don’t confuse with layoff % numbers in Ops vs BUs. There are going to be wildly different. Almost all of Ops will be gone. That is SOP in any M&A. And if you don’t know what Ops is then probably you are not part of it or living under a rock in VMW. You should know you are in Ops because you got retention RSUs or cash and you signed a letter in Workday acknowledging it.

Much of what was said in the Managers Forum will be announced at next week's company meeting. That was said directly by Raghu. There were a few questions they couldn't answer in the forum and said they would at the company meeting. Some are already speculating on that. Best to wait the week so that we all get the same, correct news at once.

"I ask because having just participated in the "Q3 Manager Forum" call - also this morning (US time), and hosted by Raghu and Betsy, I can confirm that there was no reference to February dates - and absolutely no reference to % of workforce associated with any of these 'waves'.."

@lfc+1ou4NydU given that you were in the meeting, can you share information about it? You are not denying the mid October layoff notification.

We've been aware of the three options so that's not news. The BU layoff percentages seem bogus to me (at least until the integration meetings happen).

The way they get around the WARN act is by paying the laid off employee for 60 days after they are laid off. Also, the WARN act absolutely applies. This would 100% be considered a mass layoff.

WARN notice is only required for plant closings and 'mass layoffs'.

Note, BC (like most savvy employers) will stagger the layoffs in waves of smaller groups, like they've done in the past, to avoid triggering WARN reporting.

I think we'd all like to understand more about the specifics of "this mornings call with LT team". I ask because having just participated in the "Q3 Manager Forum" call - also this morning (US time), and hosted by Raghu and Betsy, I can confirm that there was no reference to February dates - and absolutely no reference to % of workforce associated with any of these 'waves'. If OP refers to a different call, then great, and thank you, this is interesting information - but once again for completeness, this is not an accurate representation of the more generic "Q3 Manager Forum" call.

"How are they going to adhere to WARN requirements"

Each VMW Geo will comply with the local governing rules for advance notice, when required.

Other than HR and Legal, what is Ops? If you look at the org chart, what is the top level of what is considered "Ops"? The WWSSA org?

2 months pay in severance in lieu of warn notice

First time? US WARN allows for equivalent pay in place of the notice period.

Interesting. How are they going to adhere to WARN requirements when the 60 day notice window has already passed for wave 1?
