then more layoff is coming

The real surprise isn't that HiSilicon developed a 5G modem. They obviously are adept at 5G technology. The real surprise is that SIMC was able to equip a fab with 7nm technology to produce the chips for HiSilicon. The US has been trying to hold back the Chinese semiconductor industry by restricting access to the manufacturing equipment. If China has developed in-house technology (which was just a matter of time), then the floodgates will open to produce domestic semiconductor chips.
The chips are actually made by HiSilicon. Qualcomm gets hit in two ways. 1) Huawei was buying 4G LTE chips from Qualcomm. They can now reduce orders for Qualcomm 4G chips and use HiSilicon 5G chips. 2) Other Chinese OEMs can use HiSilicon 5G chips instead of Qualcomm. They have used the HiSilicon chips in the past. If you work at Qualcomm or track the industry, you would already know all of this.
@wad+1osffPja. Own your decisions. VP did vote decide for you. YOU DID. Once you do that you will be afraid of change. You worried have already moved out of Qualcomm instead of waiting to see if you will be let go or not.
Open your decisions
In China, there's a palpable fear among not just smartphone manufacturers, but also automakers, of following in Huawei's footsteps. To preemptively mitigate this risk, many are swiftly distancing themselves from U.S. chip suppliers and actively establishing their own in-house chip design teams. One noteworthy outcome of Huawei's recent chip releases is the growing speculation that Vivo is considering a revival of its chip design division, Zeku.
Your experience tells you are no smarter than others, there is no regret pills, if you are that smart, you don’t even need to work in AVGO to get rich, why didn’t you buy their stock when it was cheap, then? It’s all BS. Since you are saying Q should have more smart people, apparently you are not one of them.
I left the business side to MBAs and went to write good code. In the end I am $2M miss because I had an opportunity to join AVGO because then my VP convinced me working on 5G is the money machine. Even VPs got played. I have no idea if the board of directors still sleeping until the death to Qualcomm arrives.
Just leave the business side to MBAs and go write some code. Stop talking about stuff you don't understand and making a fool of yourself.
You didn't get the point. I expect my Qualcomm fellow should be smarter than this. We need smart people in Qualcomm. Again: the total market share is fixed. If one chooses huawei, he will not choose xiaomi or other android phone. It is not related whether huawei is selling chips to others or not. Qualcomm is getting money from xiaomi or other android phone. If they can not sell well, Qualcomm will be bad
you are so smart, you should run your own business. Go ! Go!
Do you even know huawei doesn’t sell its chip to other companies? I don’t really get why you spreader FUD without knowing any truth. If you are in Qualcomm, you should be fired, apparently you will just generate misinformation and negative environment.
Looks like you have no idea about Qualcomm's business. If huawei is successful and dominates the China market (now huawei belongs to others in terms of market share), then it means less selling units for other China Android players. It means less revenue and less licensee fee for Qualcomm. Qualcomm depends on these non huawei Android players. Qualcomm will see pain soon
Huawei wasn’t getting 5G chips from Q anyway, what’s the further loss, stop FUD.
