when everybody’s going to buy their glasses

Amon said : It’s hard to time it when everybody’s going to buy their glasses, but we know that that’s going to be the next computing platform for sure.”

Yeah right. Everyone is going to buy their glasses.

VR was huge on streaming platforms like twitch a year or so back, with top content creators spending time in games like VR chat. However, as time has gone on, the VR chat streamers have begun streaming without the goggles. The draw to these games seems to be more about the social interaction -- not the VR headset.

Even Apple is not pushing hard for their AR/VR/XR platform. They are manufacturing very limited quantities with about 1.5 hours of battery life and also at a very expensive price point. We also know what happened to Metaverse.

3-D technology was available on TV's and movie theaters 40 years ago. I remember writing a fortran program to simulate 3D by isolating different wavelengths and delaying them by a few hundred nanoseconds with reference to each other. 3D never caught on. Recently, I watched Maverick in the extended screen format and Mission Impossible in 4D - not worth the $40 ticket price. My wife and I swore we would only watch IMAX if available or just plain vanilla 2D movies.

VR is an oversold boondoggle. Very few people care. 5G is worse.

As far as I know, most status collector class already wear glasses, not because it is cool, but because they need glasses to see. Clearly it has not fixed their short sightedness.
