China’s approval?

Would/could this deal proceed without China’s approval?

It will go ahead but only if Hock orders one item from column A and one item from column B.

I suggest they go ahead and merge anyway by fu----g China, ahaha, their stock price will instantly jump 30% in 2h. That would be fantastic for their business, especially semiconductor business where <1% sales go to China.

"blocked tender"

This is normal, expected, and previously communicated. This is the result of filing elections. If you have not filed an election, and are blocked from doing so because of this, then raise it with E-trade.

This has been discussed on Slack for well over a week now. You can search there.

"VMware employees knew about this due to the emails this week about the E-trade transition. It's obvious you're not an employee, but trust us when we say this was expected and not something to panic about."

Morgan Stanley transition is over. This doesn't appear to be related to the e-trade transition.

This appears to be a new block related to the AVGO acquisition, leaving the shares in "blocked tender" status until that deal is done. I haven't seen anything internal discussing this limitation.

Markets are open today... still "blocked tender".

Don’t worry, all those in power are working against you. It will all be over soon, hush hush.

Michael Dell and Silver Lake, they write the rules. They rig the system with their financial engineering. Every ounce of their energy is to make themselves rich at the expense of the “uniformed”.

We “sent in you and email and shut down the mechanism for you to make your election”. You get the worst “choice”, $143 a share when the obvious choice is something else. Thanks for your service. Please bend over while I take a baseball bat and insert it somewhere inappropriate.

As for China, China is Hock’s bïtch. Let that sink in.

If he can say fūck all to China , he can and will fück you.

Good luck, it won’t be easy to do the right thing, because the right thing is obfuscated.

My stock is in a "Blocked Tender" status on e-trade until this deal moves one way or another.

“ My stock is in a "Blocked Tender" status”

Not sure what that means. But note that most E*Trade accounts were blocked while they transition to Morgan Stanley this weekend. I would expect VMW to be fully tradeable once the markets open after the US holiday.

My stock is in a "Blocked Tender" status on e-trade until this deal moves one way or another. The original election links for selecting cash or avgo stock no longer work this afternoon. Not quite sure what that's about. I can't seem to manage/sell my vested RSUs... so the longer this drags out, the more that su-ks.

I want this deal done. It's a good deal, good for everyone. Not worried about jobs or "culture".

I wasn't aware of hock's statement on "necessary jurisdictions". That could mean we'll move forward without china. Thank you for posting that. That's what I wanted to know. The headlines will be interesting.

The idea that this deal could fall through like Hock's last acquisition would leave VMW in a total disaster.

Give it up already ..... Not VMware nor Broadcom help you with your career. You alone are responsible for your career / future. Do what you will. If you haven't started moving with the market and learned other technologies, start now. VMware becomes less and less relevant as ecosystem so don't be an id--t.

Seriously, the sooner some folks accept the deal is happening the better it will be for their health and well-being instead of clinging to the notion that some saviour is going to come riding to ‘the rescue’ in the form of a regulator.

Hock said it himself on the earnings call last week:

“The deal has won "foreign investment control clearance in all necessary jurisdictions."

Read into that what you will but personally I read that as Hock doesn’t consider China a necessary jurisdiction.

It’s happening (unless something ridiculously unexpected comes along which is highly unlikely) and all signs point to end of October as the date. Anyone who hasn’t needs to start processing that now and planning for all eventualities and what is best for their personal circumstances.

Based on a talk between VMW senior who talk face to face with Mr. Magoo during a travel. Its a done deal. Unfortunately, VMware is already Avago. The formal announcement will be at Oct 30.
