Thread regarding VMware layoffs

I'm stuck

I can't risk losing my job right now due to some medical stuff. Because of that, I'm okay with putting in some extra effort. I really am. But when they pile on more things for me to do that I've never even been trained for, I feel like screaming. Do they expect me to magically know how to do it? That's not how things work. This whole situation has been stressing me out like crazy lately, especially with the acquisition approaching. I honestly don't know what to do about it. I'm stuck trying to figure things out on my own and hoping I don't mess up and end up without a job.

I feel for you. Regardless of your efforts, you are still at risk. Read through the CA/Symantec archive to see what those employees went through. In the case of Symantec, ~70% of that workforce was released, over time. My guess is you are earlier in career. If you can not afford an income gap, I would encourage you to explore other job options

If you're that stressed, why have you stayed? Life is to short to be miserable. I'll be the first to admit this hasn't been a fun time. I am fortunate enough to have a great boss.

Probably time for you to update that resume. Nothing personal against you but no job anywhere is safe. That's why ppl go to work for the government.

Sorry to hear that, OP. And disappointed to see everyone's meanspirited comments when you were clearly coming here for support during a dark time. We're all in this together and should act it.

I would try to channel any anxious energy you have into your plan B. Start looking and/or applying to roles that excite you, network with old colleagues and let them know you may be searching for a new job in a couple months and to keep you in mind, save up as much as you can, etc.

We can't control our current situation, but there's a lot of positive things we can do to prepare.
