Thread regarding Qualcomm Inc. layoffs

Qualcomm's China problem!

With 60%+ revenue from China, go on CNBC and aggressively communicate China risk mitigation, lobbying efforts, trade relations, growing in Europe/India/NA, ramping patent licensing globally, not just product accomplishments.

10-Q is filled with risks. What actions are you taking to get back on track? How will you measure success? Layoffs will not solve the problem. If China market is imploding, there wont be a handset turnaround.

Is diversification the only pivot? How are you monetizing 5G, why is the company not doubling down in datacenter, why did they exit, missed opportunity for sure.

Even if the tech talent is brilliant, does Q have the leadership team and board to guide the ship in the AI age? Or are the accountants making all decisions?

From latest 10-Q
“We derive a significant portion of our revenues from a small number of customers and licensees, and particularly from their sale of premium tier devices. If revenues derived from these customers or licensees decrease or the timing of such revenues fluctuates, our business and results of operations could be negatively affected” and “Our business, particularly our semiconductor business, may suffer as a result of our customers vertically integrating (i.e., developing their own integrated circuit products).”

"If U.S./China relations remain strained, our ability to consummate any transaction that would require approval from the relevant regulatory agency(ies) in China may be severely impacted."

Lol, I doubt if half of the people here actually work at Q. It’s been long that Xiaomi, Oppo, Vivo, etc. became top Q customer in volume. They generated more revenue and profit than APPLE and Samsung as they actually use Q’s AP instead of only modem. Plus China remains the biggest mobile device market.

There is a big cut planned for China offices, all levels, all departments, across the board. We just don’t need that many people in a shrinking market.

China is the biggest customer? Do you refer to Apple imports chips to China to assemble? Samsung has moved all its production out of China and Apple is following the suite.

The only option is to block Chinese companies such as Huawei from accessing US technology. Otherwise China will wipe out US semiconductor industry by buying or stealing technology. CEOs and Wall Street will sell any technology to China for their own bonus
