I'm sorry if this is a stupid question, but are people in retail eligible for severances? I'm assuming that hourly employees are not, but what about full-timers? This is the first major layoff for me since I joined CVS and I'm trying to figure out how things work. Especially knowing that retail is next.

Retail store colleagues (all full-time and part-time roles) impacted by any job elimination (store closures or hours reductions) would be eligible for retail severance benefits if not able to be placed into a comparable or other role before separation date.
Stores open and close all the time. They are not part of the 5,000 non-customer facing colleagues impacted. CVS announced the closing of 900 stores over 3 years in 2021. Those impacted colleagues are transferred to other stores, not laid off.
Store employees don’t get severance. They will move to an understaffed store.
Stores are being impacted CVS on Farmington avenue in West Hartford is closing next month.
I’ve been with the company for 15 years and through several rounds of mass layoffs and not once have stores been impacted. This time is no different; the company has already said that nobody in customer facing positions will be impacted. But generally speaking, if a store level position is eliminated or a store closes, employees are offered a transfer into a comparable position into another nearby store. The exception may be salaried store managers and pharmacists.
