This week Applied Materials, let a bunch of people go. Not sure on the number but it seems to be under the amount that needs to be reported to the government. Applied Materials called it the performance initiative. Executives were notified of this in late April early May. The goal was to identify limited contributors or groom people into limited contributors to terminate them. Reviews were moved up by two months for all limited contributors. Instead of getting your review in October it got pulled in two months and you were terminated. Some people got severance, some people got nothing. still trying to figure out how many people this happened to. A great example of a ““ world-class organization. However, it definitely does not have a world-class HR department and I would question the world class organization as well.

It’s all over now let the healing begin
Ugly or not its a decent feeding trough for $ with base, bonus and annual RSU. plenty of other places dont extend RSU as far down the feeding trough as AMAT.
All I was told was that I was being let go and that I would be getting 3 months of severance. When my boss said 3 months of severance I wanted to run out of the building immediately and celebrate. I ended up going to the bar after wards to celebrate w some friends during lunch. 3 months of severance for doing nothing thank you AMAT! I never thought I belonged there anyway bc everyone there is ugly. Toodalo motha fu-kas!
No clear communication from the Line Manager / HR about the package. Not the Limited Contribution, but still was caught in this trap. I'm an individual contributor with no team. Looks like my case was well planned and executed. I said on my last day " It's not world-class". the work culture stinks and never builds trust and rapport. From SCLA.
Keep drawing a paycheck until you are served your severance paperwork.
Still haven't received any documents about the termination and severance package. I was also verbally told that I will be given 3 months severance.
Did HR or the line manager read from a script?
3 months severance
What's the details on the separation package?
Just waiting on my package over here…. Better than staying at this toxic place!
I was impacted .. shocked .
Seems like it was all pre planned . Have a lot to say but letting it go for now as not worth it. Will never recommend AMAT.
Looking for new openings in product operations .
I thought this place was steady eddy...the land of milk and honey?
They had to quickly cut to make their quarterly number. Due to the significant revenue decrease in DDP and MDP mainly related to China restrictions, they had to find cost savings.
Wonder if this is a short term play to quickly cut, say $200M, in opex before FY EOY?
Seems short sighted if the plan is to double company size as heard in GIS all hands recently.
How many positions were cut in Austin from Finance and Audit?
AI will soon take over HR’s jobs like they will be at IBM and they will all finally disappear out of thin air.
This company is sinking ship! They’re only keeping those with visas due to cheap pay!
In 8/23 last Wed Global Manager Forum, seems a batch of lies and baloney. First, they showed an employee survey that all favor full time onsite, I don't recall such survey. Second, they said attendance is not tracked but our department bluntly told us we're monitored via batching. Third, what's the point of only asking manager and directors to be onsite full time while the rest of crew still enjoys hybrid? Nonsense!
HR should have been the 1st ones to go bc they don’t do anything other than staying at home and watching tv. You don’t need a brain to be in HR
My colleague was impacted in SCLA, heard 1000 got affected. Agreed with comments above. Plus Gary's 100% back full-time onsite mandate and recall Gary's no layoff promise earlier...BTW, HR is the department that is always MIA... :)
Wow, you said it spot on 100%!
“Not open to improvement, just how to get by doing the least amount of possible seems to be encouraged and keeping your head down and mouth shut.”
Definitely not a "world class" company. Definitely the organization does not live by its values. Management straight up lied, nor does it support its proposed value of "integrity and responsibility". It felt like I was working in the 1990's instead 2020's while working there. Not open to improvement, just how to get by doing the least amount of possible seems to be encouraged and keeping your head down and mouth shut.
Impacted Finance WWO Folks from Santa Clara or low cost Austin?
Some folks from Finance WWO were impacted
Yes, this is true. This company is the worst company I have ever worked for. Definitely not a world class org. They have us working a lot of hours with terrible training. Speaking of terrible, terrible managers as well. Lack of respect, teamwork, communication, organization, trust, and owning up or taking accountability.
What areas/departments are impacted in Austin?
‘member when Gary said there would be no layoffs at Applied back in Q1 all employee meeting? ‘member?
Woww! are there more to follow?
