He’s going to squeeze every dollar out this company. Unfortunately everyone is in the crosshairs. It just better off to find a new job no matter how many years you have. And if you do survive the layoffs you wish you were laid off. Because there will be nobody left to work. They want to get rid of everyone. Train crews down to one man, traveling carman, gut the single department down to one or on call. Track department down to nothing. It’s redundant. Yellow Freight for Union Pacific I don’t see how you can see you run a company. How about everyone gets off their engines and and everybody stops working for a couple of days.

Rest easy! This PSR crusade is going blow in Vena's face, just like it did for Fritz but only faster! There wasn't a single RR that ran with PSR that actually succeeded with it, but the UP is the only RR who's actively pursuing twice. WHEN not IF it fails, it'll be Vena, Whited, and Schmidt that'll be doing the explaining why the UP is having service problems.

My husband just got ‘furloughed’ last week after 18 years with UP! He’s the only locomotive mechanic for mid to western Oklahoma! No warning, and of course no severance package because of being furloughed. Still technically an employee. They will NEVER be able to replace the skilled and honorable workers that they are getting rid of! Funny thing is, his higher ups know that I have stage 4 cancer. I hope they are all sleeping well after doing this to their employees. Oh yeah…. Since he’s furloughed and still an ‘employee’, he can’t touch his 401k because the hardship rules are redundant! F U Union Pacific!!

It is time for all railroaders to stand up for better working conditions & pay. Many unions in America are doing this right now, and winning major concessions which are rightfully earned. Corporate profits are higher than ever, inflation is high, but railroad managers keep pushing for more more more. Working conditions are horrible, safety is getting progressively worse, and it will not stop until we are willing to walk off the job TOGETHER !

Any word where the other 76 furloughs are?

Projected to come in the 4th quarter depending on attrition and business outlook for 2024.

Su-ks too cause they only have shop seniority, not like they can bump someone an hour away. I was in mechanical for another Class One. Who knows when they can be called back.

And this is just a start to his te---r. I wouldn’t be surprised if everything gets outsourced. 19 years with the same company and to be let go is some bullsh-t. Now try to get that worker back that knows more than most people about working on locomotives. No wonder why they can’t keep people. Good luck trying to rehire great people again.

Yea good job getting rid of good craftsman that you will never get back. Is this company fu----g stupid. Obviously they are they already hired a bunch of id--ts to run the place. Here we that didn’t take long at all sound like every other company this a--hole has been part of.

Fleet numbers are above 4000 i wanna say maybe 6-7k. Give or take. Total is over 8500 including storage or retired units.

Most storage units sre not fast return to service they have major issues and usually take a month or 2 to become ready to pull freight.

I’m one of the recent layoffs, in the Texacoma service unit. We have been busy with bad parts and power, local switchers to the road jacks braking down. Apart from doing federal inspections of federal items only, I had 19 years in and to be let go for some bullsh:;t excuse of soft car loadings and locomotives in storage. The dog out power that is running is a shame.

Anyone know how many locomotives in the fleet currently and how many employees in mechanical department? My guess is 4000 locomotives and 3000 employees in mechanical.

Not sure about maNagment but last i heard the cut is 170 mechanical dept.(includes the 90+ just cut.) Will be reviewed after that sometime in nov.

So my guess for every 1 percent of locomotives stored equals 100 mechanical craft roughly.

So when do the managers get furloughed? Seems like if traffic is down, then we shouldn’t need as many managers/directors

It’s not about pulling freight at all. It’s only about stockholders and hedge funds. The lower the man power and locomotives better the bottom line. PSR su-ked the life out of this pile of cr-p place so will the little guy now. Why would customers even want to do business with this company.

I am in the engineering dept, during roll bys in last few years Ive seen more broken wheels and locomotives on fire (not just fire from the exhaust stack either) than in the previous 20yrs combined. Also have seen trains stop, cant pull on level grade bcuz the locomotives break down. Now our roundhouse is down to 2 employees.

And we've been waiting for power for over a week to pull 2 unit trains. Why is this company so fu----g d-mb? Putting units in storage doesn't save any money. And we're still not growing as a company. We've been stuck at 155k car loadings for years.
