Thread regarding Qualcomm Inc. layoffs

QC dominated by PE, PM and PdM org

QC dominated by PE, PM and PdM org , it is insane that these organizations has much lesser cuts than the engineering teams. North America will be only PE, PM and PdM org with christiano leadership. He doesn't know the value of engineering/development.

Product managers are useless. These guys can't define a product; they have been piggybacking off the modem for ages. Program managers are glorified secretaries. Any department that starts with a P is basically ineffective lololol

@iss+1ohiPPDw clearly you belong to the old guard ... you cannot think beyond your current offerings.

Qualcomm is at an inflection point. There are only two way this can go ... up or down . Status quo will not be an option.

If management believes the problem is with cost and not the market segment, they will move engineering to low cost countries and try to keep the status quo going.

On the other hand if they believe the problem is Qualcomm product fit to evolving markets they will clean house (mostly upper ranks), and put money into trying to trying to make inroads into new sectors or services. This will NOT come out of existing PE, PM or PdM.

Net income drops 52% y-o-y isn’t the result of PE or PdM. That kind of drop is the result of upper management failing to steer the company in a fiscally responsible manner. It’s result of bad strategy and from the Administration. I don’t point to Cristiano. I point to his advisory board, his SVPs, and their failure to recognize the economic disaster that every other economist saw. Ask yourself where you would be if you did your job as poorly as they have done theirs.

There are a couple SVPs who have outlived their usefulness. Doubt we’ll see anything so drastic, but it would go a long way toward the goal.

There is a time place for PE, PM and PdM org. They scale the org and product portfolio at the expense of innovation.

Now is the time for Qualcomm to pay the price for promoting the generals who fought the last war.

What do you expect from a CEO who think QC won sockets because of product management instead of engineering
