Transition

VMwarean here. Is it true if you take the transition package that you don’t get the severance package after? It’s one or the other? How was this handled for past acquisitions?

I don't know about legal aspects, but if OP are talking about generous (yoe/2) + 1 months salary severance package or something similar, you get it irrespective of transition. Transition is additional bonus time during which you get 1.5times salary. But if you break transition agreement and leave, you won't get severance. Similarly if you are offered a suitable position before end of transition and you accept it, you won't get severance.

Transition package is totally upto the company. But if you are entitled to a severance package as per law, then you will get it. The company cannot decide if a severance package is to be paid or denied. To answer your question, you will get a severance package if you are entitled as per law. The transition package is upto to the company.
