Thread regarding Broadcom Corp. layoffs

From a VMWare employee: what are "for sure" signs that you're going to be laid off by Broadcom as the acquisition closes?

If anyone remembers anything from Symantec, CA Technologies, Brocade etc.

I'm in an Engineering Operations (DevOps, member of tech staff) role at VmWare, in a core BU that Hock Tan wants to invest in. I'm super anxious about the acquisition.

I'm getting a lot more responsibility at work, my manager hasn't mentioned anything about layoffs, just about potential close dates and feedback has been going as usual. I got a retention RSU a few weeks ago.

I've been laid off before, and I know a sign is that your 1:1 inexplicably gets moved to another day.

But I've been seeing a lot of rumors about close dates, potential layoffs from other BUs, a lot of uncertainty and fear.

Thanks in advance, and I really appreciate it.

Engineers working core products are not a primary target. Do your work with pride, deliver good code and get ready to have a zillion layers of management stripped away.

The safest place to be is in engineering.

Hint: the weekend before the pink slips you will see a huge number of cars in the parking lot. Come in every weekend to see if there is activity. This is the time they think no employee will be around. With VMware though, the rumor has it that you can do this any day of the week since office attendance is low.

I know and understand your feeling. Some things are beyond your control. There isn’t much you can do in your situation.

If you are an engineer in a group that support VMware’s top20 customers, you have the highest rate of survival 80-90%

If you are in group that supports other BUs like the one above, you have medium rate of survival 50-60%

As you probably know, folks in SGA have 0% survival.

Obviously take my values with grains of salt but you get the idea.
