Thread regarding VMware layoffs

Oct 30 layoffs aligns with pay period

It isn't a coincidence that Oct 30 was chosen as the date, it aligns with VMWs final pay date so final wages under VMW can be paid out and settled. If the close before that they would have to run an extra payroll cycle between pay periods which could probably get messy.

This way they close payroll with VMWs end of cycle and then start payroll under BC for those staying.

Question here is when / how is severance going to be paid - is it also on Oct 30 or is it going to be issued by Broadcom separately sometime in November?

October 30th is the start of the next fiscal year for Broadcom, that’s why the date.

I heard it would be the 29th because contractors are scheduled to trim trees on Palo Alto campus on the 30th. Can anyone confirm this?

22nd or 28th are the most common pay dates, so no.

Maybe. But unlikely.
Its a nice coincidence, but really? you think an extra payroll cycle and the accounting with it DRIVE the date?

You are wrong. it may be a SMALL SMALL SMALL factor, a nice to have, but it is NOT what drives a closing date and thus the date that BC can initiate cuts.

After 17 months of legal wranglings across the globe, thousands if not hundreds of thousands of documents generated, edited, combed through by hundreds of lawyers and staff, accountants and book keeping staff looking at everything down to the amount of coke in refrigerators and cash in the petty cash accounts...

You think 1 payroll, that is automated will drive a date? you are incorrect and are looking at it from a simplistic perspective w/out having every been in an M&A team.

There’s nothing in my horoscope about being let go on 30th October so I simply don’t believe it. I consult the zodiac for all of life’s most important matters and I will continue to do so.

This thread is useless! No decisions are based on pay period end dates. I mean that is not even a consideration and a trivial process to issues half checks.

Oct 30 is halfway through a pay period so that doesn't make any sense. If they canned people on the 30th they'd be owed for half of the Oct 24th - Nov 8th pay period (In the US at least).

Oct 30 is halfway for hourly employees, not salary employees. Salary, as we know, are the majority of the company. So it does make sense.

For the vast majority of the company, 30 Oct is the payday. For those in the States, they also get their half-month pay on the 15th, but the 30th is the official payday.
