Received unofficial request if I want to be on the transition team. There is a high dependency on my work in my team and I felt like I might survive the lay off. Was only considered for the transition :-( Don’t think many people in my team got this offer. I’m not sure if I’ll accept this since there is no clarity on the comp. Let’s see
It’ll all be over soon

ignore the below. just saw the details in a prior post.
can someone explain what it means to be in the "transition team"?
OP, where you told until what date you have time to change your mind?
OP are you an engineer or something else?
Yes, I’ll get severance and let go. Which is a better deal financially, however, I don’t know how long it’s going to take to find a new job.
I said “yes” as a placeholder and have time till the official offer to change my mind.
Meanwhile, I’m focusing on job hunting
What happens if you don't accept their transition offer? Do you get severance and are let go?
Damn, from fully remote to 5 days in the office? No thanks sheesh
I tried to find a new job in the past year, but it was not easy with all the layoffs going on. Now I am very worried, have two kids to feed ...
Which is why waiting to see what happens is stupid. Job market is hard as it is. Tons of layoffs everywhere. Personally I was interviewing and when I was waiting for the offer, which I got verbally promised, they started layoffs too and my offer never happened.
I found something and start next month (I have yet to resign actually) but I can tell you that any severance will dry up quickly.
Remember, market will be saturated with people laid off at VMware and unless you improved your skills rather than relied on VMware eco system, you will have an even tougher time to find a job.
Wow who wants to be in transition if you get zero benefits? Severance pays out way more. That’s laughable
Group 3: permanent offer from BC, expectation is for everyone to work 100% at the office, no exceptions 5 days a week obviously no severance.
All I can say is : LOL@5 days a week in office
Work in ops
People are being told what others have already said here. There will be 3 groups
Group 1: day 1 lay off with full severance package
Group 2: transition team for a period of 3 to 9 moths tbd BUT as a contractor, no severance. Should expect additional compensation/bonuses to stick around through transition.
Group 3: permanent offer from BC, expectation is for everyone to work 100% at the office, no exceptions 5 days a week obviously no severance.
Upper management has asked for us to provide feedback what group we would like to fall under as a consideration. No guarantees of course but will help them determine who to cut first.
Omar told people to consider the options and let him know which category is more appealing to them so he can consider it when making decisions.
I always said I wanted to be laid off and that’s the most attractive option I would get full severance plus RSUs plus bonus plus retention bonus.
The contract option is not appealing to me because no severance and no benefits and it’s temporary probably will also be in office and the full time option is an immediately no for me because I am not going to ATX to be at the office 5 days a week.

I was of the understanding that anonymity was key on this site????
Seems as long as you don't use your work devices you are safe?
Correct me if I'm wrong please?
Iv seen many posts in relation to BU/location/leadership etc here.
Curious/Nervous IC wondering about their skill set in a particular location. Nothing more
In Ops. PA based. Had 2 promising offers only for the reqs to be cancelled. So I took a few months off the job search thinking I have a high chance of getting retained. I regret that move. Now seriously looking again but so far no bites just rejections from the first pass :(. I think it’s very much connections and also a numbers game so I will keep sending out resumes.
Not sure why the down votes?

I feel your pain. Been looking and so far no interviews even. Praying hard."
Couple of questions if I may?
How long have you been looking?
What BU are you in?
Where are you based?

Not sure why the down votes? Honestly just a worried IC, wondering about trends, seeking advice to see if the previous posters could share something, in relation to the current market in their location......

Whattt. So with transition bonus you don’t get severance after? Sounds like a bad deal.
You’ll be told by august 30th.
Do you know this for a fact, or are you repeating rumors others have posted here?
This is nerve racking! I havent received any notice official or unofficial I have a feeling I wont be transitioning. Im part of OCTO
You’ll be told by august 30th. Most US folks will get 2 months paid notice so it means you’ll be gone either on day 1 or just before ready for BC to take over.
No, first is togo list, which is set already. Now is transition list.
Looks like many people are receiving these transition offers.
I think vmw is first focusing on the transition list and will move down to layoff and keep lists
One of my colleagues in operations received a 6 month offer. No severance but a bonus was offered. He has been at vmw for a very long time and the bonus is less than the severance.
it’s a difficult decision for long timers.
Many directors and Sr Dir don’t know exactly what’s going to happen other than imminent layoffs. I was asked, if given the option, to stay or leave but that’s it. I think the reason is they want to be prepared for when they are asked by BC or leadership, they give the names of those brave volunteers hoping it won’t impact the rest of those that want to continue the journey. For all of you out there, hopefully you started your plan B already. Good luck.
OP thanks for sharing, I’m in Ops and a colleague of mine was asked by his manager if he wanted to be in the transition team as well. At least they are giving you a choice and you know exactly what is coming.
If given the option I would take either leaving in day 1 or being part of the transition team. I wouldn’t want to work for BC and I’ve waited this long precisely to get my severance and bonuses.
I'm in the EUC BU, and there's a deep feeling of doom within our team members. It's depressing, to say the least. We have many who have been employees for well over a decade and the thought of interviewing for a new job is terrifying
I think they’ll still invest in R&D but only on BUs that will not be spun off?
Didn't HT say he was going to increase R&D? I am shocked, shocked I say.
OP, I am sorry to hear! Hope the best for everyone still at VMW.
They are certainly mapping all of us, but not necessarily for layoff, rather for integration purposes; I heard that from everyone who talked to BC directly.
Wow! If people in R&D are being put in transtion lists, doesn't really look promising for us non-R&D folks.
OP, thanks for sharing.
From vmw, one of my higher ups at a senior level
Haven’t spoken to anyone at BC
Is this request from someone in BC? Or from VM?
OP,which BU?
Thanks for your candor
Isn’t this too soon to make these decisions? The close is happening only on Oct 30th. Was hoping they’ll inform us on Oct 30th
Not in operations. R&D
Are you in operations?
Wow. Thanks for sharing.
