I just resigned but let me give you a good example how it is in the UK and why I keep urging UK colleagues to not wait for the severance ...
I worked in PS and salary probably reaches about GBP 120k ... depending on bonus sometimes more sometimes less. In fact I know some P5/6 guys that are on approx. 160k-185k ....
IF I wanted to stay in the same technology area (VMware related architect type roles) I wouldn't be able to pay for my mortgage outside of VMware.
The average role of Enterprise / Solution Architect type roles that fall into the vmware ecosystem pay between GBP 55k - 65k in central London.
With luck some partners pay between GBP 75k-85k
Anyway, if you have stayed stagnant and concentrated on yet another VCP rather than went with the market and adjusted your skillset, you better use the time to throw your resume / cv out and give yourself some more time to find the unicorn.
Three months severance will run out in no time. Most jobs I applied for had about 5-8 interviews taking weeks if not months, not to mention the fact that a LOT of companies going through layoffs at the moment as well, and not just the big ones like amazon, google etc., but even (well especially) the startups.
Anyway, I wish everyone the best of luck and no one deserves unemployment but at the end of the day - each and everyone are responsible for their own future. You owe nothing to vmware so make sure you do what's right for you. And only you know what's best for you.
Good luck ... I am literally outta here (VMware Access will be disabled COB today haha)
On the free market no one gives a damn about P4/P5/P6 .. Job titles are meaningless. If you are an architect then it doesn't matter whether you are consulting / staff or principal architect. Other companies likely have the same career ladders.
