Thread regarding VMware layoffs

It's not going to be good

based on my experience with Avago(broadcom) , it wasn't good after a merger. They are known to ki-ling innovation and milk the cash cow. 85% of my former company were let go. Hats off to them for giving us 3 months warning and a package after.

This needs to be higher up so people know what to expect. If you think good things are coming, you are in for a rude awakening.

As someone who is a software engineer from an acquired company, I can tell you that Broadcom did flatten the organization but has invested in research and development. No company is perfect but overall it’s been positive for me.

You are in a redundant role if you aren't in a business unit. You will get hit the hardest and get hit first.

BUs will make cuts as well, not as deep at first, but they will occur over the next few years until Hock figures out how to make you profitable or sell you off.

BUT will this apply to all employees in those organisations?

Yes. Broadcom accountants can simply add VMware's accounting to their work. Same for BC marketing, legal, etc. 90% of them will be redundant immediately, the rest after a while.

"Certainly there will be cuts and if you’re in a redundant role I would say start looking immediately."

The question is do you know if you are in a redundant role? Finance, legal, HR etc have been mentioned as redundant roles BUT will this apply to all employees in those organisations?

I'm not looking forward to working at this BC Software cash cow where ever day is misery. If you're skilled and experienced why stay in this pitiful work environment. Exit ASAP, that's my only plan.

I think the right thing here is to be cautiously optimistic. Prepare but don’t panic. VMware is not the same as prior acquisitions. We will become their software division. They are acquiring a company that’s twice their size. Certainly there will be cuts and if you’re in a redundant role I would say start looking immediately. If you’re not, keep your head down, try to limit the noise and wait and see.

I don’t plan to do much before merger. My mouse moves to keep the cats thinking I am actually doing something. It’s not worth the stress. Probably get a job at Hime Depot and wear a secret body cam to film looters stealing and post to YouTube. That might be the Bud Light talking. Before you judge me, I got it for free at a store one day before expiration. I waited until no one was watching to go to cashier. After drinking some- unsure why it was popular in the first place. After Dylan the Trans Chick with a Di-k- Looks like it’s guys like me that drink it in private for free- are the great connoisseurs that no one knows about. At least we won’t have the ultra liberal lefties in HR anymore. Tan Hock knows there are only 2 genders- everything else is a result of a 404 error that is learned from SM. Cheers.
