Thread regarding CVS layoffs

Why were specific people chosen

I'm sorry if this is a stupid question, but I would really like to know if anybody was given a reason why they were laid off. Did anybody ask why it was them and not somebody else from their team? I'd love to know what kind of response was given to a direct question like that.

Don't try to find any semblance of logic or thoughtfulness in these layoffs. The executive leadership team, and most of the senior non-executive leadership for that matter, is incompetent. Spending has been out of control for years with third party vendors and consultants milking the company dry. Billions have been wasted on brain dead acquisitions and investments that have failed to make money. Billions have been wasted on poorly integrated acquisitions with redundant leadership, redundant management, redundant systems, and redundant processes. Billions have been lost on failed negotiations with Centene, Blue Shield of California, and several other PBM clients which cannot be discussed publicly. Now that the stock has dumped through the floor at about -33% over the past year, our low IQ leaders are scrambling to appease the almighty shareholders (peace be upon them) with mo--nic slash and burn initiatives. What's in the pipeline? A clusterfu---d integration of two recent primary care acquisitions which were bought at a steep premium, a rudderless PBM strategy in the face of anti-PBM regulations and intense competition, and who fu----g knows with regards to retail pharmacy.

To the person who criticized others for “grammar”. Gee i read the post and what the girl claimed was she could not hold their hands because of her workload, which is normal. You decided to join a certain job after reading the jd, so it is your responsibility, not everyone else, to keep up with the jd. I hate all those “fake it till you make it” people. Such nonsense may work for entry level but not for jobs with specific requirements

I think salary and relationship are the key factors for the decision. One of my teammate got let go while they kept the others that barely did anything. The one that got let go actually performed some work while the others just sitting around and attend meetings but did not do any actual work. They would ask some other teams to do their work for them then present the results. But then they always have chances to present to higher up management as they are white so this is why i think they kept them.

BA COE was sent to India

The entire BA COE was let go. I’m curious what the reasoning behind that was. Many projects don’t know how to go on as they lost the BA before requirements were completed.

To that person who claimed to be so skilled, I have to wonder why your coding is superior, yet you grammar is off???

~60% of my team including me and our team director got cut. I am pretty sure the names/decisions were made by our skip level supervisor (who has minimal knowledge on what everyone's roles were on the team) as my boss was in the dark with who was getting laid off. My guess is our skip level just chose to keep the few team members he has had the most interaction with in combination with tenure/salary and that was it...

This is for the person that said two people with lessor skill set let go and always came to her to help them but she refused. YOU will be doing their jobs along with yours now. Congratulations for not helping ur coworkers

Some rising stars were probably on the list because they were "rising" in an old system that CVS is not looking to reinforce.

There were a few opportunities to rise up to an elevated position in the company, but I know a lot of colleagues that stayed where they were because there was writing on the wall that these things wouldn't last.

I know a few colleagues that became Sr Managers Business consultants, only to find they've now been eliminated, not even allowed to go back to the positions where they started --- despite the fact that position still exists as of today.

My entire department was let go with the exception of the Admin. My previous reviews were mostly Exceeding with a few Meeting. I was getting at least two Heart at Work Behavior recognitions per month. When I asked why I was let go, I was told “role elimination”. I had a very specific role to play in company and there is basically no one to pick up my work.

I had two people in my team that got let go, they skill set was weaker than other and unable to adapt and pick up new skill set without hand holding. They couldn’t event figure out what was wrong with the code when it error out and the error message was just there in front of their screen saying file not found. Did not do anything to even try to debug it so I help them look into the code and I told them what was wrong with it. They tried to push their work on me but I refuse to take it with the amount of work that I already have on my plate. If I was to choose to have to let someone go, it will be them also. I think my manager did the right choice. It su-k that the lose their job but at the end of the day. It’s all business

Great question. The amount of talent that was let go in my dept in unfathomable. Why they chose some to stay over others, who are planning on retiring soon, is just a plain old bad choice.

We were told to not ask questions about why it happened and why they chose who they did.

Im a manger who was asked to get rid on one person. I liked everyone on my team they were all productive the choice was hard. In the end I chose the person who would be missed the least- I know that sounds harsh but I had to chose the person whose knowledge was not unique. Someone else could easily pick up their work. This person got their job done everyday but was the least likely to raise their hand when there was extra work or someone else on the team needed help. They had only 2 heart at works while the rest of the team averaged 5 a year. They were also the highest compensated amongst their peers at the same level. Im sure they are sitting there furious right now. Never a performance issue, always got a 3 at review time. But at the end of the day they were the one who when ranked on the team came in last. I feel terrible, I lost sleep over this. Im sure there were many other managers in my same shoes. Every department, every manager used different criteria in order to meet very high budget targets. The losses are staggering across the company this will be very hard to overcome.
