Thread regarding VMware layoffs

I'm happy

It took long enough, but finally. I've heard about Broadcom and how good, experienced employees are treated there. I'm looking forward to it.

I worked in CA for many years, Broadcom acquisition was the best thing happened to me during my long carrier. I bring home 3x times more money ( Same pay + RSU + Bonus ) and I am doing exactly the same job as before, but with less Managers/Directors/VPs working around me... It's perfect!!!

What are you "Happy" about? Because BC will do as it always do and 75% of the company will be canned meaning you have a decent chance of being one of them. Glad I left...

I would use caution before, celebrating. Remember, VMW managers and directors save their favorite employees. Your experience and accomplishments don't matter.

This is also self-contradictory.

VMW managers have their favorites, but their accomplishments ultimately don't matter. You saved the world a year ago, but a low-cost employee can do similar at 1/3rd the cost. Manager don't get to choose. Dirs, Sr. Dirs, VPs do, but don't know what miracle individual ICs performed in the past quarter.

based on my experience with Avago(broadcom) , it wasn't good after a merger. They are known to ki-ling innovation and milk the cash cow. 85% of my former company were let go. Hats off to them for giving us 3 months warning and a package after.

Managers don’t have input into who stays or who goes.
