Thread regarding Optum layoffs

I'm feeling stuck

I want more than anything to leave but I've had zero luck in landing a new job. I've been trying for nearly a year but so far nothing that could justify walking away. Too many lowball offers and no serious ones. I almost hope to be laid off so I can spend some time focusing solely on my job search while having some severance money to get me through it.

Has anyone heard about Optum losing a major contract with a prominent medical system in the St. Louis area? I hear that was said to be a 10 year deal that is now broken by the come located there.

Wow. Sounds like you guys need to make yourself invaluable. I left Optum on my own. I didnt even have a job. I just left cause I was tired of their garbage. They dont have money for tools or for employees but they do for a podcast.

I was in the tech department so my skills are highly sought after. But I do feel for you guys. I tried incredibly hard to make sure people got recognition and bonuses.

If you feel like you are stuck, you should consider embellishing your resume or yourself. Fake it till you make it.

Also, have a good coworker relationship. Someone who can pretend to be your boss for a reference or so. This is where people get tripped up. I have gone to bat for many of my former coworkers and they have done the same for me. I know a lot of people dont have that opportunity but remember that a faceless corporation like Optum will squeeze you dry.

I was also laid off from Optum. They do zero to help you find employment at one of their other locations. I have heard they do not rehire former employees.

"I was recently impacted. Just got the notice that my life insurance is no longer effective nor my insurance. But, we are one happy family, until we aren’t "

Do you get the option to continue these benefits and when does the health insurance end, is it the end of the month or your last day?

I sounds like you're fortunate to have a job that pays so well. Maybe stop whining and get to work.

Do as little as possible but still get paid. Save the money it will be needed.

I understand the severance package is junk. If you've not landed a job after nearly a year of searching, I doubt a few weeks of paid search time is going to move the needle. It's tough out there right now, and if you're not finding the job you're looking for, perhaps it's time to create it.

I’ve been seriously looking since about March…… and I’m still here. I have never felt more stuck some where in my life

Same. The job market has a lot of postings but they don’t seem to be in any hurry to fill them. Look into the possibility of starting your own business, there are a ton of entrepreneurial grants available.

I’m in the exact same boat. I have been trying to get out of UHC and applying since last year and nothing has come through yet and I can’t stand the work I do
