Thread regarding VMware layoffs

With broadcom looming, should I accept a job at VMware?

I am waiting to hear back for a position in support services, but it seems like now is a bad time to go in- but why would they be hiring with all these pending layoffs?

Stay clear of any role in EUC Marketing. IMHO, they are due for significant cuts.

If you're desperate and just need a paycheck for a few months, then go for it.

Absolutely not, unless you’re unemployed (which you’re not) just wait until something better (anything) comes along. The rats have left, the ship is sinking and only the band members are still here.

So you're asking if you should buy tickets to board the Titanic?

It's their job to hire. It's not their job to care what happens after someone is hired.

LOL, get out of here.

Hiring managers don't care what happens on their teams? As a hiring manager, I would just keep delaying interviews for weeks until acquisition if that was the case. Why go through the immense effort of interviewing and training someone up? Obviously not the case here.

My comment from other thread

Don't think of this as blind layoffs across the board. There are many, many teams within VMware, each with varying priorities. This is a good way to reallocate people to more priority work by laying off some from Team A and hiring new talent into Team B. With strict budgets in many BUs, if you have an offer then that is a good thing. It likely means the work you are going into has greater priority and will continue to have better support.

There are good teams, great teams, and bad teams. We've not had attrition in our teams in my area since last April, and have hired half a dozen new people since Broadcom news was announced. Much of what you read on here are former, disgruntled, or anxious employees. Don't read too much into this board. People have been claiming mass layoffs were coming every week for the past 18 months.

Do you want to go to Ukraine for vacation ? It is a battle zone that everyone wonder if they should leave or stay.

I think it’s a fair question to ask the recruiter or hiring manager as to the plans for the role long term

I do but my current job is extremely toxic... it's going through its own acquisition and changes and layoffs that I so far have survived. yet I have way more tenure and likelihood of a severance here than i would at vmware... :( I was so excited about the possible position till i found this board and details of the broadcom thing.

obviously that depends, do you have a job now? Have you had other offers..if this is the only one you've gotten traction on. You could look at it as a guaranteed sum of money but as the other poster said, if you can wait, I'd wait.

Absolutely not, give it 6-12 months and reapply
