Eliminate PTE

Why it needs so many senior staff and above people - to do what? Compare it to other teams and one will ridicule the number of sr staff, principal, directors it has. Just huge overheard on Qcom. Same applies to SW test. The work in these teams doesnot need engineering background

In general, the problem is you will eventually get promoted to Sr Staff / Principal after working 20+ years if you do well. This is expected. However, once you reach this level, you are at risk of getting impacted by RIFs during downturns since you are more expensive. It's a pretty lousy career progression.

I would give more credit to Test engineer than Product engineer

PTE, TC: 350K, YOE:23 here! Unfortunately, any chip design without PTE is just a nice looking layout in Silicon. PTE organization takes the design and mass produces it to EOMs, PERIOD. OP- Go back to Cadence and pump out those designs!

Ok, return to this thought when customer is screaming the wifi or graphics are not working in THEIR use case & design has no idea what is going on.

I agree 1000% that there is no need for principal as a tile for PTE.
sr.staff is highest tile the company should pay for PTE.

Principal/Sr staff in PTE is equivalent to senior eng in design/core teams in terms of work. There is no special skill needed in PTE that requires principal or sr staff engineers. The same work can be done by senior engineers. I agree in that PTE sr staff n above is redundant and should be eliminated. Just my 2c
