Horizontal or Vertical which team will have more layoffs in DVC ?

It appears now that DVC was created to prioritize Vertical team members and keep them close to the business operation, (light-ON strategy). Whereas treat Horizontal team members like consultants, increase or reduce team strengths on need basis. The cuts may be happening more in Horizontal team. Doesn't matter performance or tenure. Vertical team takes all the credits of getting things done as well:-(.

Vertical team is safe! The boss seems to be a visionary person now, by hampering full org. productivity with this structure he can grow in Q.

Vertical teams has no expertise other than email PowerPoint.

Too many project managers analysts
Managers in vertical team.

High paid engineers seldom need the work of these so called management people

I used to work in a project where we had project manager. The project manager was let go and we never needed to hire another project manager for that project as engineers were able to handle all aspects.

Most of the project managers and analysts are absolutely not adding value other than sending useless emails and reporting useless status .

"horizontal team that supports you gets laid off", in my opinion this should be done to bring the cost down and make the team more efficient at this time.

We all know about the redundancy here..., however as a line has been drawn by the VP, we're letting you to have your job, keeping mine and applauding our VP to keep doing rich PPTs. Never forget that the intelligence and expertise you may be applying at Q's can be easily transitioned. Think how many days will you take to handover your tasks to a new grad ? Be honest to yourself and see how many actual hours of work did you do to support the vertical team since the formation of DVC ? Keep in mind that the vertical team has been already supporting the business and answering them round the clock. Horizontal is needed for new developments only. If there are no new developments, still the company is paying to horizontal team members. Don't you agree - Vertical team can get a consultant on a need basis with that budget who could be adding better value to the organization ?

What the heck is DVC and what parts of Q does it apply to? "Digital Value Creation" doesn't mean anything to me. I want to know what it is, who is driving it, how it changes how things are done at Q, and what departments are affected? IT? Customer Engineering? HW Engineering? SW Engineering? Systems Engineering? Product/Program Management? What? How does it relate to the split between "core engineering" and BUs?

Horizontal implies the technical team and vertical implies the functional team.

Everyone knows that the vertical team is useless. Remove all the DVC verticals and the DVC leadership and Qualcomm will still be able to function and a lot more efficiently, too. That's because ALL the work is being done by the horizontal teams and it's the vertical team members (like you) that are taking credit for all their work. You know full well that if the horizontal team that supports you gets laid off, you will no longer be able to take credit for anything and you will be next to be laid off or fired.

I'm a part of the vertical team, working very close to the business partners to make them successful. Without us (vertical team) Q can't function. Horizontal team needs to create value, but as they are not bringing any good value, management keep bluffing $s around.

The bald headed VP of Applications who created the mess of horizontal and vertical has added no value. He needs to go. All he knows how to do is make himself look good to an incompetent CFO.
