If you buy vmware shares today, only risk is if avgo stock drop to less than 662$, then you will make loss.

(2 * VMW buying price -142.5) / 0.252
(2 * 154.72 -142.5) / 0.252 = 662. So as long as AVGO is above this price, you make some profit.

but the notification letter has a quantity (number of vmware shares) in it. will the selection apply to that quantity only?

Yes. The deadline of Sept 7 hasn’t expired yet. In fact a lot of EMEA employees must have bought stock this morning- there was quite a bump. Now it dropped again.
