Few years ago I started seeing colleagues let go, massive layoffs across industry. It hasn’t really stopped after that, pockets of layoffs here and there. Sometimes you would wonder how they choose who gets laid off.
If you wanna survive in this company just do the minimum but pretend you’re always busy. Always compliment your supervisor and always say the politically correct words. I saw people climbed the ladder with less education and qualifications but they talk big about themselves and their so called achievements.
You could be a high performer but gets nowhere up the ladder. I was once told “you have to sell yourself”. Is it not performance evaluation is all about? Nope, performance evaluation is just a formality. Your future depends on how well you can sell yourself to your narcissistic supervisor or manager.
Take it easy on the “hard work”, coz really nobody cares. Most people if not all are just their for the money. I saw someone let go due to “poor performance” but reality is the person got into argument with the incompetent supervisor.
The pay and benefits are good, the pension is also good - only if you can actually retire here. That lifetime pension you’re expecting might just turn into pension commuted value and severance package. At least they’re generous with the package.
So start evaluating your long term options.
