Thread regarding 2U Inc. layoffs

Anonymous Feedback isn't "healthy"?

We complete endless surveys, bring concerns and recommendations to our managers, directors, and VPs, organize IC committees to help spearhead better processes, bring concerns up at any meeting we can and still see and the same bullsh-t after YEARS of dysfunction. We escalate to HR (worse than useless). We get gaslit by people who make 6 figures, while the majority of staff is paycheck to paycheck. We are living in fear of losing jobs that we care so much about and used to love, but the millionaire is going to lecture us about what type of feedback is "healthy". After many years with 2U as a chronic over-achiever who went WORLDS beyond what my job requirements were, today makes it clear that I cannot care more than they (2U leaders) do. Like many of us who worked for years with NPS scores from our students, we've been told that if you get a bad anonymous review and it's just a one-off, you can probably disregard it. If you see the same critical feedback theme keep popping up...change something.

"82on" apparently has the business acumen of a cockroach.
It's the investor's company as well. Chip didn't Solely fund the company, as well as pump his own funds Only into it.
As well,, it was from the Dedication and Sweat and Sacrifice of others who built it ( but you're probably too much of a newbie, bloated Fromm all of the koolaide you drank to know anything of which you speak).
Doyou think chippy made calls every single day in the AC role? Or worked with students thru the SC role, to support (a.k.a. retain) them?
And that's just the initial sales and retention side of things. However, without that side, there's nothing!!!

Go back to school, you child and leave the conversations for the adults in the room!

What an entitled bunch of crybabies. Its his company and he's paying you - if he wants you in the office so be it. If you dont like that and dont want to leave your house thats fine find a company who goes along with that policy.

@1iye+1oXa82on

His tantrum wasn't about how the company was doing from home, it was because HE wanted people to play with in the office. That was the whole reason and he revealed those cards once the tantrum started.

Thank whoever for webinar mode because I remember swearing. Obviously it's been over a year but the gist of it was: "It used to take me hours to go office to office talking with and meeting employees. Now I'm done in seven minutes."

Little Chip missed his bought and paid for friends.

Hours going office to office..... no wonder he had time to start another company if we weren't there for him to bother.

To me things really went down hill fast at 2U after Chip’s very public RTO meltdown. And I still don’t understand why that was his thing to have a huge tantrum about when the company had been working fine throughout the pandemic. But when he made sure to remove a public channel on Google because people were speaking their honest opinions and challenging him. That showed that he couldn’t take non anonymous criticism or have a discussion. If you shut down actual avenues of honest non anonymous communication and questioning, you can’t be surprised people take to anonymous boards. And seriously if someone can explain why RTO became his hill to die on I’d love to know. It’s the point at which my eyes were opened about him.

To the people saying “if you don’t like it, leave” I can say, I already have. I decided to leave after the first round of layoffs. I left because I heard chip say in a conversation “staff are not going to like this decision, and I don’t care”

To hear a leader, the CEO, blatantly say, out loud, that he does not care how his staff will respond or feel about one of his decisions was absolutely shocking. Talk about saying the quiet part out loud, he did. Regardless of weather it was a decision big or small, he should care deeply about how it impacts the people that work for him.

My boss also heard this comment and when we talked about it, they defended him. I didn’t think I could be floored twice in one day. His attitude and behavior is abhorrent and completely disconnected from reality and the sycophants that enable him are causing real damage to their staff.

My skills are highly transferable and I was able to get another job quickly. So again to the people that say if you don’t like it leave: I have and so have many others. The talent lost just further erodes this once great company. If you want the company to succeed, you should care about it’s people, not just about protecting a leader who is demonstrably a jerk.

If you are a leader at 2U, give your people some grace and let them be frustrated, it’s reasonable and justified to be frustrated after these rough experiences. Do not insult your people by sugar coating things and praising Chip, you will just lose your best people first, they will just quietly walk away, as I did.

Unhealthy?! This anonymous forum is the most healthiest thing we actually have without fear of retaliation. Of course, he’s going to say that, he doesn’t like to hear the truth from his employees. However, the healthiest thing to do would be to actually hear what is being said, and act on it. We all would not be on here voicing our opinion if we didn’t care about 2U. We want it to succeed. We want to be 2u employees. But we want to be treated fairly and we want to be heard. You know what is unhealthy? What is going on at the company now. The gaslighting,

Because, "82on" speaking truth used to have meaning. Clearly, and foreign concept to the likes of you.

To the person throwing out the extremely dismissive "find a new job" comment...I find it fascinating that you too are engaging in anonymous posting. Papa Chip doesn't think that's healthy, just so you know.

Well said!
Btw, by "healthy" he means:

  1. for the first time in 2u's history, they are unable to dictate and control the narrative
  2. it's not as easy (if even possible) to directly retaliate
  3. it's scary when it's anonymous, because it's possible (just possible) that some in the inner circle maybe speaking more towards their own conscience
  4. what will people outside of here think about 2u
  5. it hurts his "feelings??"

Oh well!!

If these are your true feelings, for your own health and the productivity of others, why wouldn't you look for job opportunities elsewhere?
