Thread regarding General Motors layoffs

Why is insurance so high for E.V.s and can this effect sales?

Getting an insurance estimate before buying a house is normal. But why should buyers of an E.V. have to make sure they can afford car insurance first?

Americans need to make products from American raw materials. The EV's are not under Americans control.

Is this just another Ponzi scheme to invest in? Similar to MBS(mort. bac sec), like throwing a soapy bubble up in the air and betting on when it will pop. Entertainment that may or may not produce.

More importantly will the EV problem effect future gas vehicle insurance? Ex: Gas/diesel vehicles currently pay modestly for insurance, but at some point, could be in accidents involving EV's. Astonishing little damage to an EV cost major dollars. More so if the damage is worse. The EV problem could drag everybody into higher insurance premiums even if you do not own an EV. But then if you are a politician trying to push GM fully into EV"s, now you could invest more in insurance stock and specialty parts for EV's. Are we all blind to this old trick?

"Yeah, you post that over and over."

Yes, I do. Because it's all true. All of this information is real and verifiable. In the meantime what do you have to offer? Let me know. I will take some time away from my electrical vehicle product development meetings at GM to read your response.

"But compare the premiums for a same price EV and ICE vehicle."

The OP asked why insurance was high. How does comparing premiums between ICE and EV answer that question? If you can't think critically, maybe it's best to stay out of the conversation.

Now, get busy picking apart @tws+1oV8njis. Use sources. Give us your best business case. I'm really excited to see you do your thing! I give it a 99% probability that my suspicion is right and you have nothing to offer.

Do you have anything real to add? I doubt it. "Go find some friends" is really pathetic. Do you have actual information as to why EV insurance is higher or not?

Boat builders want to see the boat they built float and not sink. Same with vehicle assemblers. Following all stages until it finally hits the junk yard one day matters. Extreme insurance premiums can sink the boat before it is launched.

After the EV rolls out the door, good to keep up with any hitches the customer has like insurance. Helps employees plan for future layoffs if it fl-ps or feel secure in job if it does well.

Much, much higher repair costs. EVs are filled with electronic modules and a high voltage battery that runs the length of the car. You hit it from any angle and you are in big trouble. It's like a contained inferno on wheels. The insurance industry pulled out of some states because of theft and natural disasters. I expect once EVs become more mainstream, a much higher premium will be placed on them, IF you can get insurance.
Either that or they will spread the cost to the ICE car owners. Either way, 1 in 4 has no car insurance in Michigan. Expect that number to go up as the insurance costs go up. EVs are a disaster for everyone, not just the children that work in the cobalt, lithium and nickle mines.

Hundreds of battery fires come to mind, and EV battery packs are usually totaled in typically repairable accidents. Yes, I would imagine the higher premiums and the news about the random fires would make most people think twice. In China they are seeing about 2500 thermal runaways per year. They can happen anywhere. Why are you asking about insurance premiums on a layoff board?

Are they setting the premiums on the cost of the vehicle, because EVs are expensive, or are they charging more than they would for an ICE vehicle that costs the same?
