Thread regarding VMware layoffs

Has anyone who wants to be laid off and given severance voiced this to anyone? Like their BU leadership?

“but managers/directors have no say in any decisions, maybe general managers/VP but what is the point of mentioning this to your manager who also has no visibility or influence into what is happening?“

Directors and VPs do have an input, the point if telling my management is to convey the message to our VP which they did. If they are asked to get rid of x percentage of people at least they know where they can start with me and makes that decision easier.

Yes, I've shared my desire to exit ASAP with our VP, and she seemed relieved.

“ It honestly pi---s me off to see posts like this some of us are sweating right now we need a job we got families to feed. And some of y’all begging to believe unbelievable”

Everyone has to make the choice that works best for them, the fact that BC is not the company I want to work for made me realize severance is my best option. I would have left already if it weren’t for retention incentives and severance. I have prepared over the last year and I am ready for a new job/challenge. I voiced this to my management exactly for that reason and I stated that in my email, I don’t want to possibly take a job offer away from one of my colleagues who do want to stay just to decline the offer so I was transparent.

I can understand there is a lot of uncertainty and I wish not one person would lose their job but we new this was coming and we’ve had a year to prepare.

Hey 1hgu+1oQwLuRp, unpi-- yourself. It might be that those with more options are volunteering to save colleagues jobs.

“When did you voice it to your management? Was it your manager that you voiced it to? Or your skip? And how? Through a 1-1? Email?”

I voiced to my manager during 1:1s and sent an email to my manager and Sr. Manager stating my preference for severance rather than a permanent position.

I mentioned it to my VP a couple months ago. All he’s said since is that I’m well positioned for either a transition or permanent offer. We’ll see.

The transition offers better be buckets of money or everyone will just keep looking for work and jump ship if something comes up.

In speaking with my manager today, those who will be contacted and made an offer within the next 2 weeks will have the option of stating their preference to be laid off, and be laid off with severance. Those not contacted with an offer will receive the email communication EOM stating they are being released, with severance. I know this is a regurgitation of information and misinformation summarized to the best of my ability
