Nobody was/is ever safe from a RIF, in any company. This has been the case since day one.

high performers are

hah

Do you know how rare jobs are that actually require high performers? Especially when they're expensive? I don't need someone who can design a framework in an afternoon when I'm still waiting on PMs to set scope and get inputs. I need someone good enough who is paid cheaper than others.

Microsoft did this at the start of the year and laid off many of their top engineers. People who've been there for 20 years and designed tech were replaced with mid-level engineers who simply understood it. That was good enough.

You could be crushing sales in SMB, but if Hock says he wants to focus on Enterprise then you have no value.

I agree our leadership is feeding our team the BS that we are essential to the business nobody is essential and we are in Ops. It’s sad to see some people buying it and not preparing for what’s coming.
