There’s been speculation about the Cork office’s closure due to its high expenses, with the possibility of support services being transferred to APJ for cost-cutting. Do you think this could lead to a thousand people losing their jobs in the near future?
I'm feelin' a bit anxious, I am, if truth be told.

I haven’t seen anything news wise from Costa Rica.
The Macaws have been brushing up on their American accents and should be ready to help customers in time for the cutover to Costa Rica.
As a former employee I have strong feelings about Cork. I wish them the best of luck. But if they laid off the entire facility in Burlington, Canada in 2016 (when I was there) then I would have to guess that Cork would have a similar situation.
That’s just life. I haven’t seen anything news wise from Costa Rica.
I recently got a photo of Raghu’s poòp. Reading those tea leaves I can say with no shadow of a doubt that at least half of the Cork office will be cut within a year. After a year, I’ll need another poòp sample, but Raghu will be gone by then, so I’m not sure what to do.
This is by BU not location, if you are in Timbuktu but part of a revenue generation unit important to BC you will be retained, if not it does not matter if you are in California or Calcutta, you're going to be told to hit the road.
- Raghu recently signed an agreement at Egypt for 5000 engineers + 150 trainers.
Therefore, in the long run, GSS will definitely be effected.
- Id--t. Whats happening in Egypt is an IT academy to train up to 5k IT people... GS globally right now is about 3.5k but sure... they are training 5k to replace.... dope.
Codswallop. The transitions are said to be either until March 24 or Feb 25.
Where did you get the 9 mths?
Not on Day 1, as a lot of Cork people will get a 9 month transition contract and BC will need the Irish entity for that.

this is all BS no one knows or cannot say whats happening in Cork, no need to be alarmed
Not all counties in APJ will be cheaper than Cork. If the primary consideration is cost savings, the likely viable options would be India, Malaysia, the Philippines, Thailand, or Vietnam.
Not on the 1st of November, but in the lead-up to Christmas. Sure, we're all mighty excited to receive that Christmas letter, aren't we now?
On November 1st? I very much doubt it. Wait and see what happens to your position, the same as everyone else.
Ireland is expensive hence is toast, not day 1 though over 3 years
first thing medi did was contract to Wipro, that is the destination https://www.broadcom.com/how-to-buy/software-partners/global-partners/wipro
Cork will downsize, send most to low cost, close buildings
Its not that people are bad, some very good but who is good and bad does not come into it, it is who costs a lot of money and where can money be saved, sad but true
Cork is more than GSS, lots of us here who aren't TSEs.
I've been with the company for well over a decade, and the Cork support center has a large percentage of good technical support engineers. I wager a single Cork TSE is more helpful than all of the dozens of HCL minions I have observed in several large accounts over the years combined. They are the epitome of collective re--rdation.
Thousands of people are losing their jobs in the US as well, why is Ireland so special?
Be jasus hope not
It's not happening. Scaremongering as usual. There will be people impacted in Cork office day 1 but most of GS in Cork office (certainly TSE level) will be fine. Transition will be a different ball game though and between outsourcing/divestitures the office will be fairly decimated over next 12 months.
Whole site on day 1? Doubt it honestly; but in the near future as previous poster suggested; very possible. Unsure if Irelands corporate tax is incentive enough for BC?
Only today, news of a number of multinational's expansion plans in Cork and Ireland.
It's a waiting game.
Best of luck!
If they are to do so, there is huge amount of knowledge/skills transfer required and it will take a year to do so. If I was a TSE in that situation I am not sure how would I (be able to) work diligently knowing that I am to be kicked off after that "transition", after years of work getting to where I am. Another option is that they can outsource to HCL straight away, but again that requires transition. I hope they are not to do this
More than likely. Job losses for the IT sector in Ireland have been rampant
There are 1000 employees in the cork office?!
