Can we apply for unemployment from the day we get fired, even if we get severance?

Are there any disadvantages when getting unemployment benefits?
Yes and you might as well do it. Depending on how quickly the social security fund runs out, this might be your only chance to actually get money back from the government for all the taxes you've paid in over the years.
Yes. But $450/week is better than a kick in the pants. Moving away from this depraved state is the end goal and after separated from VMW. I've lost perspective and seen this state just crater over the years. It's just not cool any more
As mentioned, in Texas you cannot apply for unemployment for the period covered by severance. In California it is allowed.
Depends which country you are in, use your favourite search engine and find out.
In CA, yes but it’s only $450 a week.
California? Yes. Apply the day after you've served your final day with the company, even if you've received severance
Depends on each state. But in my experience, Not in Texas until after those benefits /time run out for the designated severance package you get. Previous employer notified the state authority of the impact and I had filed day 1, when I was given notice. Took almost 8-9 weeks before the systems caught up and I had to give it back to the Texas Workforce Commission, got a nasty gram - but already had a job lined up at about 11 weeks into the job hunt. No double dipping
Check your state, but usually yea
