Thread regarding VMware layoffs

EUC?

What happens? Why are we no t hearing more from our esteemed leaders. Do we have the option of a severance vs joining a private equity butcher?

EUC if axed by BC... It's not that bad news.. becuase BC would sell the BU and the resources would move along... sorry for the EUC management (duplicated by the acquirer), but some will stay to run the show at least for some time... rest should have a better life, I believe

"From being always out of favor of the VMware family, EUC is now one of the safest places to reside with regards to continued employment."

You clearly have not been briefed by Gartner and IDC on the overall legacy EUC market.

Fact: The VMware SaaS and Citrix SaaS solutions are out of sync with the market demand. There is nothing 'safe' about being aligned with a product category that is now obsolete.

I'm in EUC (not R&D). My feeling is that we will remain broadly intact as a BU and we will join BC as a separate BU under the rebranded VMware brand. We'll then be on our own to sink-or-swim and monitored over time. If we swim, we get to stay at BC, if we sink, we get sold off.

BU Management will work out what we need to do to swim:

  • Flattened management structure. If you are in a non IC role and don't have any reports, expect to be moved to another position, or given some reports, or be laid off.
  • If you're in one of the many strategy type positions where you don't bring any $$ value, expect to be moved to another position or laid off
  • Sales territories will likely be expanded with a reduced headcount
  • More PSO work moved to WWCC to reduce PSO headcount

This will take time. I would expect that BC would have a short/medium/long term plan for us.

From being always out of favor of the VMware family, EUC is now one of the safest places to reside with regards to continued employment. It is being positioned as an autonomous business either in or outside of Broadcom.

I would say engineers in EUC will be safe for a few months after the Acquision is close.

It's been speculated that they will get spun off. Shankar has said that Hock had no idea the euc business was as big as it was when he talked to him red flag for me. It has also been mentioned on numerous sales calls they are not focused on the vmw top 2000 but their own top accounts. Growth in the company for euc has never been brought up and they constantly say it's status quo. Could that mean a spin off sure. Could that mean just distancing it from vmw to its own business group in Broadcom also yes.

I've been hearing that EUC will be spun off--might take up to a year, but I've heard that everyone in EUC is preparing for when we are on our own and don't have centralized marketing, sales, etc. I've heard that all the higher-ups are very busy meeting and figuring out how to disentangle us from the centralized VMware stuff.

"Why are we not hearing more from our esteemed leaders."

I'll answer this question, honestly, and with hope for a change of leadership.

Shankar is the man to ask. A very capable technical person. He comes to each 'All Hands' meeting to share useful insight with the whole organization.

However, I always come away from those meetings wondering how we're going to achieve our BU growth goals. I don't believe he's in the loop about what happens next. Being an SVP doesn't mean much when you're opinion not valued.

Inferior? Did you mean insecure? You seem pretty secure to call people names.

Just wondering if it’s the same inferior person repeatedly posting the same question no one has an answer to, or if there’s actually that many…
