Thread regarding Optum layoffs

Start A Union

How many people are interested in getting a union at Optum? I am willing to do the leg work. This way management, can't get away with unethical stuff that they do to employees.

For anyone out there that thinks unions are useless, take a look at what the UAW workers are expected to get. 30% wage increase over 4 years! That's more than 7% per year! What did you get from UHG/Optum and it's affiliates? 1% if you were lucky? Let's not even discuss the other benefits auto workers get. Compare some Healthcare unions as well then let me know your opinion.

Anyone who wants a union must be some young fool who has never been in one. Been in two of them and never again. They used to have a place but then they ruined it being fat d-mb and greedy. Never worked with such a useless bunch of folks. Seniority is great if you are the one at the top. But if you are lower you get all the cr-p forever til someone dies or retires. don't forget the hand in your pocket for political causes you do not agree with. Dont think for a minute union will stop offshoring and outsourcing. Union will accelerate the process due to cost. Be careful what you wish for

i'm going to guess the 'no' comments to unions are higher-ups. anyone can see how hard the upper levels push against employees trying to get unions in at amazon, starbucks, etc.

No, sure. Employees will just have to deal with the self-dealing shitheads running the union lying to them. Good grief. Who the fu-k what's a goddam union? Organized labor is for fu-ktards.

“That approach certainly wont stop jobs from going overseas....”

The approach they need luck with is continuing to su-k the American public and their employers dry for employer-based health insurance and associated premium payments when no one in the US has a job anymore to pay said premiums. Talk about ki-ling the goose that laid the golden egg, right? The social contract is broken, and the country being run by mo--ns who are owned by shortsighted corporations doesn’t bode well for them in the short or long term. Way to go. Brilliant business people. Have fun planning your bunkers in NZ while you try to figure out how to keep your security teams from just unaliving you and taking all your stuff. LOL. Did I say mo--ns?

Hard no on unions from me. They care about seniority not performance. I have seen them protect the useless or below average performers too many times. I like my performance based bonuses!

To all the naysayers on this thread- a union can ensure that moral & ethical practices are carried out; that the company can't just change metrics part way through a quarter simply because to many people are meeting goals; rules/sources of truth must be written & accessible, not just "that's how we do it" attitudes; etc. I could go on & on but really, it's about fair pay for the hard work we do to make this company money and look good. Have you seen the way job grades are set up? Pay grade 26 can be anyone with a GED to a masters degree. How fair is that? How many people received a cost of living increase??? I don't know of any and when i asked for the criteria they used to decide who would get one, no one could answer that, not even HR/ human capital/ People center or whatever they're calling themselves these days. This company gets away with a lot and they'll continue to do so unless we stand up to them.

Totally agree! This organization is so morally and ethically corrupt, the employees need a union to protect basic human rights. They will never do the right thing unless they are forced to do so!

No thanks on the union. Only thing unions are good for is protecting the cr-ppy employees and making sure they get rewarded for their lack of work. I prefer performance based rewards.

That being said, our system does need some help, but rewarding even the slackers is not the answer.

i've been in a union and have worked in a company similar to uhg that had a number of unions for it's different areas. they are there to protect the worker. good healthcare insurance, limited outsourcing of jobs, treated fairly for promotions and a say in pay. have you read posts about quiet quitting on this board?? just because you're in a union doesn't mean you can't be fired for not doing your job and when you say that there is corruption - have you seen the leadership (non-USA for USA healthcare dollars) at this org?

Not a supporter of Unions. Not the answer.
I know people in unions and they are unhappy.
They never feel well supported by the union leadership who are out for their own interests no different than what is currently in place.
