Thread regarding VMware layoffs

Demand for workers with AI skills is strong

  • Meta and Salesforce are rehiring some of the workers they previously laid off.
  • Big Tech companies are increasing hiring in areas like artificial intelligence.
  • The way companies handled layoffs will influence whether workers are willing to return.
  • Companies that handled layoffs poorly may have a harder time convincing former employees to come back.
  • Workers considering returning to a former employer should ask questions like why they were laid off, what has changed, and why they should trust the company again.
  • Some workers may demand better pay or job security if they decide to return.
  • The demand for workers with AI skills is strong.
  • Returning after a layoff can have lasting effects on how employees perceive job security.

I wish I could back into workday and query across all the companies they manage HR for and ask how many managers have no reports.

There are more fat bloated whales out there! VMware squandered its opportunities, probably never thought they could ever be acquired for their market cap.

PE at the level of skill of Hock is never wrong.

VMware will be squeezed and produce so much profit for AVGO, your best bet to make money out of this is to take all your severance money and invest it in AVGO.

That is what I’m doing.

Soon you will be a former VMware Hiring Manager. So good luck with that.
Listen A HUGE Part of the problem with soon to be gone VMware is the amount of hiring Managers who actually never did an honest days work.
This in addition to the incredibly bloated CSM, TAM, Customer Care Teams who apparently never worked with these Hiring Managers.
Do this before they let you go….
Login to Workday or People Search and look at all the Dead weight on these “Customer st-----g” teams.
Especially when you look at the salaries they make.
Can we not acknowledge that this was ultimately a big part of the downfall.

As a hiring manager, I would probably have some extra questions for anyone that stayed at VMW this long. If you rode it out until the end, chances are that you either couldnt find another job or was coasting waiting for severance. Neither would really put you on top of the list of people to hire.

"Are there any internal training courses that we can leverage whilst still at VMware?"

Coursera has some GenAI and Prompt Engineering self-paced training classes that you can audit (no certification) for free.

yes, but everyone now is claiming they are an "expert" in AI just because they had a conversation with chatGPT or took some AI course on LinkedIn.

Thanks for the summary. Are you trying to land a job as a reporter?

This is a layoff site.. not your personal news analysis site. Get a blog or a podcast and keep it on topic.
