This one was awful. I get the acquisition is a business decision, but to "celebrate" on stage while colleagues have been focusing on contingency plans for months should they not be retained while managing the business was incredibly poor taste. Especially from the leaders that emphasize the importance of our EPIC2 values. There are a million ways to change manage this acquisition effectively and with a soft landing for all impacted, yet...

The VMware severance policy will pay 3 months of cobra, but will not automatically enroll employees into Cobra. That means if you're given a 2 or 4 month severance plus 1 week for every year of service, Cobra will be an option after your notice period expires (2mo) and you'll have to know to register for it, and that VMware will fund the first 3 months of it. I'm sure they'll advise impacted employees of that process.

For the health insurance portion, you'll have cobra for part of it, fwiw.
