Thread regarding 2U Inc. layoffs

No, it is really that bad.

I've posted before and my warnings have been right. It's bad. Get out. Now. The company has lost 90%+ of it's share value over the last 5 years. The company lost 62%+ of it's share value in 2023 alone. There is no viable business model here.

The share price is sub-$3, heading for sub-$2 soon. If we get below $1, we'll get a warning about delisting from the NASDAQ.

There will be lots of layoffs coming soon. Chip is looking to dismantle this place, sell the pieces, and move on to his 'Pro Athlete Community' venture. Bankruptcy is not off the table given our debt liability. Get out now.

People share such things on a message board for the following reason:

The literal origin of this site was designed for people in distressful work situations ( hence the title "the layoff") the ability to communicate and commiserate with one another. Maybe the previous writer/s needs to go take themselves back to the cool aid drinking la la land @ the 2u Culture Club ( your happy place)?!?!

Trolls galore. Why would anyone share this info on a message board

I cannot believe this company is still standing and I am so glad I got out when I did. I am truly shocked at how many people have been so loyal to this sinking ship despite so many glaring red flags & the lack of any competitive pay or benefits.

Cuts will occur until our PE ratio is at least a zero or above zero. SE is an obvious place for cuts.

Another layoff is due in SE at the Director and VP level. Ask anyone in the org… no one understands how they impact revenue and how their pay is justified.

Large SE layoff occurred in 2019 - feel free to confirm this information on Glassdoor.

How long do we think before the layoffs? I've been working in SE for 3 years and it seems like my department has gone largely untouched. Things feel pretty lean around here - high turnover and more dials than there are ACs. Don't know what they would do if they cut us.

Across the board cuts are coming. The goal is no longer to grow the business, it's to reduce liabilities to sell off parts of the company.

In a previous round of layoffs, brand strategists were affected. These positions were reintroduced as account managers in 2023.

There were also layoffs involving writers, designers and those in learning development. There has been recent discussions hinting at the dissolution of the learning design department.

There were individual roles that were sales oriented (student facing roles) who faced termination in March 2023.

Last year there was an effort to reduce marketing spend, which led to targeting groups mentioned above. This group may face risk again.

Additional layoffs in 2023 were performance based, as evidenced by public reviews on Glassdoor.

Predicting which teams will be impacted in the future is uncertain, but historical data has been provided.

Good luck.

It doesn’t take insider info to look at the price and say layoffs are coming.

If you know something, be specific. Who is getting laid off and when?
