Thread regarding Qualcomm Inc. layoffs

Company rewarding slackers

If you are a slacker and low performer that you will get laid off, then congrats ! The stupid company who is trying to cut costs will reward you:
You get 3 months + 2 weeks for every year + lump sump + Nov RSUs
And severance is taxed at 22% flat rate.
So if you have been around for 10 years, you get 8 months salary + lump sum + Nov. RSU.
You will make tons of money !

If you are a high performer and contributing meaningfully to the company's project, then sorry, no merit increase this year, and you get only 70% of your target bonus.
Thanks Qualcomm !

I know folks who have factored in base pay, performance bonus, RSU's and ESPP to pay for 3500sqft McMansions in 92127 zip with 1.65% property tax rate and $350 HOA's. Looks like they will have to cancel vacation plans, eating out and the 3 year Audi upgrades to make payments.

OP, "severance is taxed at 22% flat rate" is false. NA suplimental federal withholding is 22% but your actual tax rate on the severance is likely higher given how late in the year it is. Expect to owe in April!

@1xht+1oKfPTjR if you are fairly senior as you post seems to indicate, your unvested RSUs thst you lose are probably more than the 28 weeks of payout you 'd get.

I've opted for "early retirement" so I'll soon be gone, with the 10-year of service package. Looking forward to it, but I'm feeling for the younger folks with families and mortgages, or anyone who is really attached to QC.

OP, if you want in on it, just talk to your management. They'll have one less layoff to worry about as well. Win win. But we all know you won't do it as you are just a troll (else would have done it without drama)

Why do not you volunteer if you feel left out? Some folks had success with it.

If status collectors are they only ones left, the company is rewarding all the hard working people by laying them off and giving them severance.

Status collectors will be the only ones left after layoffs.

The extra workload will be distributed by status collectors to people in low cost centers.

You forgot to mention the extra work load that will fall on those staying!
