Deal is planned to close Q3/2024. In mean time Splunk has enough time to cleanup/trim their Employee base to make the aquisition more attractive for Cisco. With result these people will be layed-off before close and don't get any benefit from their current Splunk stock options :-(

The layoffs are coming and you need to be realistic.. These type of acquisitions are only successful through deep radical cuts. Take a look at Cisco history with acquisitions and what has happened to companies. Also look at other playbooks with companies like Citrix, Tibco, CA, Symantec and now VMWare people are waiting on their futures. All blood baths…The market is flooded with layoffs so when you get the chance to jump ship go for it.
Agreed. For some reason I still get their employee ratings from Glassdoor. You can clearly tell. The people who give it 4-5 stars are either under a year or work in some joke role. The people that are real and honest are actually working in tech. I guess it won’t matter in a year but it’s been a long time coming. Terrible culture of liars and frauds.
Similar to what other companies did. Worked for both companies. I can say they should've seen this coming. They do not operate like big techs in that you're paying people double for what the industry is paying. I have zero doubt Cisco will see the books, open then up and then cut the pages in half. This will save Cisco in the long run. I don't see them cutting PS people unless their plan is to outsource. That would not surprise me. Splunk PS is somewhat fat. I can see all PS managers being let go cause let's be honest, most are not needed if there are good PM's and good delegation. I am not saying this about Splunk, but all PS managers in tech. As for Customer Success, that's tough. No one wants that job, but I reckon Splunk is also paying them more than their worth, so maybe it's a matter of cutting people or just bringing them back to earth with what their worth. Let's be honest. Cisco wants the products and the really tech-savvy people. Splunk has been puffy chest for a while, but man, they are in for a rude awakening. Conf will be over. T-shirt time, over. The pony....will be let go to join the circus. hahahahahahhaha. Cisco has the technical people that are worth their pay; layoffs happen, but if I am looking at a splunker vs a Cisconian, Cisco wins in the first quarter. RIP Splunk
Hi, your friendly Cisconian here. I came to Cisco thru an acquisition. Get ready for the circus!
Splunk will be left alone for about 1-2 years. Then, Cisco will start talking about “harmonizing” y’all into Cisco. They’ll convert you to their job classification/grade level and get ready for them to sc--w you by bringing you in at a low grade so they don’t have to pay you more for a while. This can’t be negotiated, you get what you get.
Shortly they will be looking to make cuts and lay offs.. Sales, support, customer success, professional services and operations will go first. Then eventually product management and engineering.
Cisco is getting very aggressive on layoffs, they’ve had three in 11 months. Welcome to the Cisco culture!
More good news. Haha
In a statement made available to TechRepublic, Adam Geller, chief executive officer of cloud-native SIEM platform Exabeam, reacted by stating, “We believe this is a good outcome for Splunk. They’ve struggled to get to cloud-native and their innovation velocity has slowed. This acquisition might be the best exit for them. Today’s cybersecurity customer demands innovation in cloud-native solutions, particularly in this AI-driven era where over 90% of today’s enterprises are using the cloud over on-premises solutions.”
Reacting to the news in a LinkedIn post, Rob Strechay, lead enterprise tech analyst at SiliconANGLE Media’s theCUBE, argued that while the deal offers to bring SIEM and extended detection and response together for a more comprehensive platform, it still faces a challenge in AI integrations and advancements. “Splunk and Cisco are behind on their use of AI, and the current architectures of the products do not lend themselves to immediate competitive advantage, in particular with some of the independent and hyperscale security competitors,” Strechay wrote.
You must be new to tech. My Lord. You think they’re going to need all the useless splunkers? No. They’ll fill a ton of splunk positions with people already at Cisco. Save a salary when they figure out splunkers only work 10 hours a week. Hahaha
"make the aquisition more attractive for Cisco"? It's a done deal. They don't need to lay off a single person unless there's some secret agreement.
I wouldn't be surprised to see a minimum of 1,000 and a max of 3,000. Things were very easy at splunk for a lot of people. A TON of people coasting. A TON of mgmt should be laid off. For about 30-40 people they had 5-6 managers. All who were useless and just did lip service. that old boy network will continue to crumble and really, it should, it is in NO way representative of a technology firm. Adios Muchachos!
