Do new hires typically still receive the minimum severance (2 months) in these scenarios even if they're still on probation?

Hopefully for you....your hiring this close to acquisition completion was part of the transition plan. I do believe any hirings/moves/re-orgs etc last six months were part of this plan.

No entitlement , ex gratia payment only which for vmware has always been ok.

You should ask HR. They're not going to just drop kick you because you were a new employee on probation. You're still a VMware employee. I'm pretty sure that the severance starts on day 1 of you being hired. You won't get the extra pay check for each year of service, but you still should get the 2 months severance. Good luck.

I wouldn't count on it. By definition people on probation can be released without specifying a reason. BC does not seem to be the company that does nice things to people 'just because'.

Even in the UK to be eligible for statutory redundancy you need to be employed for 2 years.
