Lay me off, don't lay me off, but get it over with so we can all move on.

OP, if you could have moved on in the last 2 months you already would have.
Move on to where? The unemployment line? Wait till you see your income shrink to 1/10th of your current salary. Most corporation has frozen hiring and are laying off. So finding a job won't be easy. And they say, the labor market is strong with so many job openings. Well, have you heard of "fake job postings". Many many many companies do this. It's a form of advertisement for the company. They don't really hire a 100 people for the 100 job postings they have. Perhaps 5-10 out of the 100 postings. Believe me, you don't want to be laid-off. It can get depressing and tough times are ahead with oil prices increasing, and Fed continuing to hike at least one more time in 2023. Inflation is going to increase again as oil continues to increase due to OPEC+ cutting and USA SPR (special purpose reserves) are now less then half what they used to be.
