Why are the high performers always the first ones to be let go?

Hi…someone here who definitely wasn’t a higher salary and was told my layoff was not due to merit. Also, I only worked there for a year and a half. Laid off 2 weeks ago.

you are ranking by salary and picking up from the top.
High salaries / poor performance or poor skills have been already moved out years ago or in previous round. Consider that high performers are also moving themselves out of this company ... without needs to fire them.

Probably because they have higher salaries. Which shows how short-term the management is thinking.
