Thread regarding VMware layoffs

Will broadcom layoff their own?

I am sure vmware has much better software talent that BC. Then why wouldn't they consider laying off from their own software divisions?

The arrogance and stupidity of this question shows how f*cked VMware is. Everyone who needed to go is long gone. What's left is efficient and profitable.

Hock would lay himself off it is wasn’t for the fact that once he was out he could not fire anyone, it is the only reason he remains in the role.

"Why should they fire their own employees?"

Because they do. A friend of mine was in a company that was acquired by Broadcom years ago. He was one of 2 engineers left from the acquired company that joined another 7 BC engineers to form a team. Some BC engineers were let go as the acquisition was happening to form the new team.

Today he is the only engineer left from that original team. All the BC engineers on that team are long gone.

In general when Broadcom acquires a company they view the inbound company as something that needs to be cleaned up. Until that it complete it doesn't make a lot of sense for them to try to compare VMW employee to a BCRM employee. Thats how it was with CA and Symc acquisitions.

To reiterate what @tig+1oHoFd9L said.

We are joining the Broadcom conglomerate. We won’t be interacting with other “business units”. They are independent companies for all practical purposes.

I had to go to the office last week and saw some of the BC folks. They looked rather intense. You can tell just looking at these people that they live in a world of constant fear over losing their jobs. Does not look like a fin place to work. So I would not be surprised if they are also worried about losing their jobs- not because of the deal, but because its a constant thing.

search this website for Broadcom and see, they constantly layoff their own, probably the stack rank/bell curve Jack Welch school of getting rod of anyone who is not a star performer each year, thanks Jack

"Even current Broadcom employees are at risk of being replaced."
lmao. i have no idea when she said this or if she did, but it's just deflecting to keep vmw key talent from jumping ship.

Given their notorious history of constant layoffs, I'm sure they lay off their own people as well as those from acquired companies. It's hard to even define who is "their own" when their workforce potentially consists of individuals from previous acquisitions.

their employees are also worried and that they could potentially be replaced or have to compete on roles with VMware employees

That is the human behavior you get when working for a company that is a real life squid games.

No thanks, I’m out.

BC does not have too many SW guys from their own. They assimilated CA tech and Symantec, and they already slashed quite bit of them... These two division with work with vmw team to deliver the best products.

Do people really not understand they are two different businesses completely. Most of Broadcom's revenue comes from selling hardware to a small number of customers and it is a very technical sale. The rest of broadcom is running around the enterprise looking for renewals on mainframe and security software largely. No way to compare and it is just clueless to claim otherwise.

Are you sure about this?

Broadcom has 20K employees and makes 35B dollars revenue and and 15B in earning yearly.

VMware has 40K employees and makes 15B dollars in revenue and 2B in earnings yearly

Why should they fire their own employees? If VMW employees are so dream stars in their field they will easily find new opportunities.

Jill Turner(Broadcom Head of HR) indicated that their employees are also worried and that they could potentially be replaced or have to compete on roles with VMware employees. Her quote: "It is all about survival the 1st year after an acquisition, everyone is all hands on deck. Even current Broadcom employees are at risk of being replaced."
