Thread regarding VMware layoffs

Will Specialists go?

I heard rumors that the Specialists will be laid off in the 1st wave. Can anybody confirm this or heard the same?

My experience says anyone that starts a message by reading out their resume is actually the insecure one.

i don’t find—as a VMW specialist that most core people could sell tail on a troop ship. It is the specialists that sell and are paid less than the core. Source: networking and security specialist that has made club half the years I have been with VMW (3 because covid eliminated club 2 years) and have finished at 400% of quota more than I can recall. Further, my core regional director relies on me for half their bookings.

this specialist has made their number for 14/15 halves in a row. The core sellers I work with cannot even spell networking or security etc…This specialist has gone to club twice and routinely contributes 1/2 of the core RD’s attainment. It will depend on the specialist because there is a lot specialists sell that would never happen if we weren’t there. The reality is unless you’ve been in the NDA meetings with BC people are just speculating (running their mouth) without substance.

Most of the valuable specialists left 1-3 years ago when they had the opportunity to level up their career. The majority who remain work to churn perpetual into pseudo SaaS or help AE's create the last of the ELA type contracts.

Might depend on what they specialise in and how that maps to any change in priorities (the same as it always has!)

I can see broadcom keeping a very small specialist team but I suspect there will be pretty drastic reduction in numbers

In sales. Specialist SEs are more valuable than core SEs imo. Core sellers should know enough on the general portfolio to sell with the help of specialists for deeper tech dive. SEs typically go to specialists anyway. Specialist account reps should be redundant.

Of course, specialist SEs only in the areas Broadcom wants to maintain.

So many people need to go. VMware is a bloated mess of mediocrity.

Can’t wait for the first wave. The number of toxic people here is countless. I hope that cuts are big and deep.
