Thread regarding CVS layoffs

We need better leaders

We need leaders who can do a better job at strategic thinking to prepare organizations for 3-5 years out. If there was better planning for the future, we would know what jobs and skills were needed so we could develop and train the workforce to up-skill and prepare. It is also important to monitor staffing needs and not over hire only to need to turnaround and quickly cut millions in costs and eliminate jobs. If leaders were better aligned strategically and actually cared for colleagues, they would do a better job to avoid layoffs in the first place. Layoffs are quick shortcuts to cover up poor leadership decisions and actions. The sad part is many lives are affected by layoffs but the leaders who make poor decisions have contracts that still pay them millions. How does that happen??!! The average colleague is expected to complete compliance modules to maintain their jobs but where is the leadership accountability and responsibility??!! I have experienced many who are not role models of the code of conduct or compliance.

Poor leadership will definitely encourage more union activity, that’s for sure! I do think we can choose where we go to school, work, shop, etc. and who we v-te for. We can use our buying power and talent to communicate what we stand for. Now if only big te-h and soci-l med-a would support fr-e and fair sp—ch!!

They claim to care about colleagues and “hearts” (PR and prop*anda) but why is it so easy for them to just discard talented people so quickly with no regard for impact? So much money is being wasted daily or millions spent on wke projects for low income housing when closing stores in those same communities impacting local jobs, access to care and consumer goods. Doesn’t make sense and hard to trust big tch, companies or govt and how powr and mony is stealing life, libery and pursuit of happiness. What is happening to our freems???!!! What type of society and county are we creating and is this what we want??!! Not me!! The powr of the few is negatively impacting the many! Vot for change at the ballo* b*x, where you shop and spend your money and where you choose to work!

Better question to ask is, what were we doing with the 2-3 years of Covid windfalls? Have seen many teams grow exponentially, or entirely new teams launched. If we take the cumulative new hires for the past couple of years, does that equal the layoff numbers?

We need better planning for consistent, sustained growth, ensuring we have the resources to "weather" any headwinds.

You're giving them far too much credit by calling them "leaders." At best, they are incompetent managers.

The last decision about layoffs is not the first decision about initiating the process to consider them and evaluate options lol.

It’s not just one decision.

Just if you are thinking 3-5 years out.. your last decision about that idea you have for 5 years from now isn’t today… it’s much closer to execution but it’s thought about long before hand.

Decisions of layoffs were not made at the beginning of the year for our team. The last decision made was at end of June.

The decision for layoffs likely occurred at the beginning of the year.

The trademark for that new manufacturering company was filed in January.

He-l capital projects in the pharmacy take 18 months and that’s after it’s been approved as a project.

There are people thinking years out.

Problem is when their vision of the future doesn’t accurately predict what the world will be like then.

Couldn't agree more. It pains me to hear how many cvs employees seem to be struggling due to poor pay or due to layoffs.
