Has there been any update on the Palestine Car Shop? The last word out was the US Supreme Court refused to hear the case and referred to the lower court decision. And that was UP can abandon the 1870 contract and, soforth, close the shop. But, it's still open (I live in Palestine and retired from there) but local scuddlebutt is silent on its future. Pls add intelligent news as fit.

Yes they fall under 5th circuit of appeals court for federal, but that’s not the issue anymore. Its the state court holding up the closing of the shop. That’s why I posted about that case since the question was being asked what’s going on with it now. It’s been established UP got the federal courts blessing to close.
@upk Palestine (TX) falls under the 5th Circuit Court of Appeals.
There are eleven (11) United States Courts of Appeals, excluding the Federal Circuit, which has nationwide jurisdiction in specific cases.
There is a 12th Circuit Court at the state level in TX, but that is not a federal appeals court.
Right now the case is in the twelfth circuit of appeals case # 12-23-00152-CV. You can go to search.txcourts.gov to keep up with the case. Good old Judge Davis can only keep delaying the shut down of the shop for so long. It’s gonna happen.
Each state should have layoff notices in a WARN info page . Something like 60 days in advance of laying off large # of people.
Does it really matter? The UP executive team
and mini Vinny will close ANY location they deem unnecessary. That's information that anyone can look up. Contracts aren't a forever thing. Contracts can be voided due to changing business environments. The only thing anyone can do is to wait and see what happens. The only thing the UP executives are good at to blindside its employees. You'll know when a location gets closed on the day it actually closes. Very little or no warnings are given when it comes to layoffs or closures at the UP. If you're retired from there, then why does it matter? You really should consider your self very fortunate that you made it to retirement. Many people now won't make it that far unfortunately.
